2007 Mitsubishi Lancer ES 2.4 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Reliable but unsophisticated cheap car

Faults:

Front springs sagged - replaced under warranty.

Front shocks noisy - replaced under warranty.

Drive by wire erratic at times - dealer could not fault.

Steering noisy - dealer could not fault.

Front disks warped and needed machining at 50,000.

Various rattles from dash.

Trim on doors wears quickly.

Speedo inaccurate - out by 10km at 100km - dealer said it was within accepted specs.

General Comments:

I was very happy when I first bought the car. But as time went on, I realised these things are built cheaply to sell cheaply. The suspension is not very good at all - lots of noise and wear out quickly.

The trim is very basic and cheap.

The speedo is inaccurate - out by almost 10km.

Until I moved back into a larger car, I did not realise how much engine and road noise penetrates into the cabin.

The seats have little padding and get uncomfortable on long trips.

The panels are thin and dent easily. The paint is soft and chips easily.

Performance wise - very good for a 4 cylinder, and better than most in its class. Handles hills very well.

Not the best fuel economy for a 4 cylinder.

Headlights are poor.

Overall, a reliable car. Very good for a first car. But not one you'll love to own if you appreciate cars.

Matches my recollection of driving one from 0km to 120,000km.

Handling was poor through roundabouts at speed.

50lt fuel tank and 9.5lt/100km or worse meant that you were driving between petrol stations effective range 350km - 380km and the fuel warning light was on.

2007 Mitsubishi Lancer GLX 1.6 from Egypt

Summary:

A very good car

Faults:

No bad comment could be reported, except that the brake disc was changed after two years (on 60000 kilometers).

General Comments:

A car with high performance, but the engine's sound can be heard inside the car.

2007 Mitsubishi Lancer 2.0 Di-D from Bulgaria

Summary:

Good enough for the price!

Faults:

Metallic paint started to started to flake at about 45,000 kilometers. Luckily still in warranty; the dealer repainted it.

General Comments:

Cheap enough to run, but there are cheaper.

Thanks to the 6-speed manual transmission, urban fuel consumption is at most 8l per 100km.

The materials that the panel is made off seem rather cheap, but you can want nothing more for that price.

All electronics, from the AC to the MP3 player and electronic security systems, function well.

While driving on bumpy roads, you can feel slight discomfort.

2007 Mitsubishi Lancer EX 1.5L, mivec from Trinidad and Tobago

Summary:

Reliable with good features

Faults:

So far no mechanical faults.

Rattle sound coming from in dash mp3 player on rough roads, which goes away on good roadways.

Air filter was replaced with a K&N at 25000 km.

Oil used is Mobil 1 10W30, changed at dealer using their oil filter.

Due for its 5th service soon at 36000 Km.

Yokohama tires at 35000 km still have half cm tread left.

General Comments:

I get average 30MPG. Can be higher, up to 34mpg for highway run at 120Km/hr.

Seats are comfortable and highly adjustable.

Rear view area is difficult to see, since the car is so high.

Overall very reliable with low running cost, since service is 10000Km interval at dealer.

2007 Mitsubishi Lancer GL 1.3 petrol from Egypt

Summary:

Great value, well equipped and a good investment

Faults:

I've done 70k Km with this car and nothing absolutely happened, just normal maintenance like changing brake pads, new tires (as I'm living in hot UAE weather), air filter and coolant. Just follow the owner's guide.

General Comments:

I love this car, and I highly recommend it for young families.

Advantages:

1. Value for money.

2. Looks decent and sporty, so it suits both young people and older conservative buyers.

3. Handsome interior.

4. Comfortable ride, great driving position and great visibility.

5. Easy and stable ride.

6. Cornering is great with little under steering.

7. Roomy interior and compact exterior.

8. Well equipped.

Disadvantages:

1. The 1.3 liter engine is slow while overtaking with the car, but it accelerate rapidly later.

2. Few storage spaces in the interior (cup holders, etc).

3. Boot space is average.

4. A/C is very good and cool enough, although a stronger fan would be appreciated.

Value, well equipped and a good investment.
