1990 Mitsubishi Magna Executive 2.6 Astron from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Good buy

Faults:

2 CV joints.

General Comments:

I am very impressed with the entire range of Magnas. My work car is a 1985 GLX. This car is also as reliable with a carburetor instead of the fuel injection.

It has a manual transmission. It is not as quick, but still gets me to work every day.

1990 Mitsubishi Magna Executive 2.6 ltr 4 cyl Astron 2 E.F.I. from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Cheap, comfortable and great value for money car

Faults:

Automatic transmission needs manufacturers specified fluid to get a longer lifetime out of it.

The cooling system needs a reliable coolant to keep the engine running temperature within specification.

General Comments:

The Magna TP range has greatly improved on previous models (TM, TN). I find the electronically fuel injected engine a must if you were to buy this model, the carburettor model requires constant attention.

Overall a cheap, extremely good value for money car.

1990 Mitsubishi Magna SE 2.6i from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

A great car!!!

Faults:

The only things that have gone wrong in the car is a little trouble in the auto gearbox, and a minor electrical fault in one of the back electric windows.

General Comments:

My Magna is a great car, I love it to pieces. My Magna has never let me down and the dealer was happy to get the problems fixed (but they took almost a month to get my auto gearbox fixed).

On the highway the Magna is a great smooth car to drive, with cruise control and 93kw of power under foot, it overtakes easily.

1990 Mitsubishi Magna GLX 2.6 4 cylinder petrol from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

4 cylinder performance with 6 cylinder fuel economy!

Faults:

It broke down and needed a new igniter on the 3rd day I owned it.

The car overheats regularly and the timing always needs adjustment.

The brake discs are warped (which is common on this type of car).

The muffler broke away from the exhaust.

The head gasket will need attention soon and the shocks are worn.

General Comments:

This car offers big space, but surprisingly low performance. The engine is a carburettor 2.6 litre 4 cylinder lifted from the early '80s Sigma, which provides poor acceleration along with dreadful fuel economy. The engine puts out a mere 83 kilowatts at best, a 0-100 time of just under 15 seconds, and a top speed of 165kmh.

When this car first came out it was marketed as being able to tow a tank. I strongly doubt that, but good torque provides acceptable towing and the car drives surprisingly well when fully loaded with band equipment or 5 people.

These cars get smokey and rust very easily - as is the case with most Mitsubishi's. As such I would not buy another.

The person who wrote the previous review on the 90' model Magna obviousley bought a lemon that had been mistreated. 90' model Magnas are a good reliable car. If buying one, go for the fuel injected model, which has an impressive 93kw opposed to the pitiful carburetted engine which only delivered 83kw.

The only problem I had was a little trouble with the auto transmission on my 2.6 liter fuel injected 1990 Magna SE.
