1996 Mitsubishi Space Wagon GLX 2.0 from Malaysia

Summary:

If only the gearbox was reliable

Faults:

Problem with the gearbox, was not running smooth and at the end the gear box (Automatic) needed to be changed when I had it at 70000 km. Cost a lot to have it replaced.

Same problem occurred to my dad's Space Wagon in Hong Kong.

General Comments:

It is fun to drive, quick and powerful response.

Sitting high making it easy to see things around. Which in turns gives passengers a spacious feeling.

Very practical. All seats can be folded down giving a very huge space for transportation.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

With regards to the Mitsubishi Spacewagon, indeed it is a remarkable piece of engineering, it is therefore difficult to associate it with what can only be called its imported twin the Mitsubishi Chariot. Though identical in almost every way, the resourcing of spares is a little more difficult and trained technicians with the right equipment for more in depth analytical repairs are none existent. I have a gearbox fault (auto) running on default, was told to replace the gearbox (a feat on its own) now I have been told that the default codes need to be reset. no problem you would think, 1 Mitsubishi dealer, 1 diagnostic machine and away you go. indeed not, nobody has the right software on their computers to communicate with the chariot ECU, is it in japanese I wonder? My thought now is to change it for a spacewagon as resources are a lot easier.

It seems that Gearbox is the achilles heel for Mitsubishi Wagon GLX. I noticed that the car won't shift to highest gear on high speed & high RPM. The mechanic was very fast and efficient to show me that it was because gearbox problem.

Reluctantly, I agreed to replace it and quite surprise to see 3 more GLX in the workshop with the same problem - gearbox. The mechanic told me that one will go neutral by itself, one will go to first gear in a sudden, and one will stay in 2nd gear.

Thanks for the good works you people are doing. It is highly appreciated. My Mitsubishi Spacewagon automatic gear has this problem. I have replaced the gear twice. The ignition system is also becoming troublesome. Please, is there a way out?
