1996 Nissan Almera GX 2.0 diesel from Finland

Summary:

A reliable economical friend

Faults:

Diesel engine is a bit lazy and noisy on idle, but it's very economical.

The trunk is not very big in the hatchback model.

General Comments:

The Almera is very reliable and the diesel engine's fuel consumption is only a bit over 5 l/100km.

It's cheap to own and you never have to worry about this car.

1996 Nissan Almera SRi 1.6i 16v twin cam from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Part leather trim is nice, but the sports seats can be harsh

Faults:

I put it through a fence, but no fault of Nissan.

General Comments:

For a small engine it's fast and quick off the mark. Handles like expected of a sports model Nissan i.e. brilliant. Top speed I've done is 127mph with a bit more in it, the majority of miles I cover are at 110mph+ and I've had no problems.

Mine has the GTi brakes, fast road pads, Nismo front bumper, Evo 6 type bonnet vent, DTM splitter, also league tantrum alloys & HKS air filter. I fitted an exhaust heat shield, Momo harness pads and leather gear gaitor, CT racing aluminium gear knob and Sparco pedals, also motorsport style mats and colour_co elect. M3 type wing mirrors.

Since this review I've fitted Nissan 200sx touring leather seats, white dials, and dimpled & 10 grooved F. disc, EBC Greenstuff brake pads, Sunny GTi-R spoiler, Almera GTi rear skirt and aided performance with -35mm Spax springs and Sparco F. strut brace, K&N induction kit with custom twin cold air feeds, s/steel cat back Scorpion performance mandrel bent exhaust, FSE power boost valve, and braided s/steel brake pipes all round. Also fitted Falken 502 tyres.

The car's now got 130BHP approx. The Almera SRi is a great underestimated hot hatch, and only group 7 insurance! Buy one.

1996 Nissan Almera Si 1.4 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fun and packed with extras

Faults:

The electric sunroof switch was faulty.... other than this everything has worked perfectly.

General Comments:

Great car, good handling around corners, quick off the mark and comfortable to drive.

It has lots of extras: CD, alloys, full electrics, airbag, etc.

I would definitely recommend the Almera Si.... especially in Yellow Pearl. The best part is that the insurance is very, very reasonable for a car like this.

However, I would like to say that the 5 door Almera's look bad.... almost like an estate!

(1.4 si 16v) I would agree with you, however, I have only had mine for 3 days so my comments on the car would be somewhat biased. To say that I love it would be an understatement! Looks, ALL the electric gadgets and gizmos that I would ever need N reg 27k on the clock alloys F.S.H. All in Alaska blue and I only paid a little over 3k for it from a dealer - need I say more!!

But does anyone know the performance data for one of these cars i.e. 0-60/mpg etc etc. Off for a drive now and maybe I can work these figures out for myself......!!

You said the 5 door Almera looks like an estate, when the design was for a small family estate car.

1996 Nissan Almera GX 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Front bumper cracked when scraped off other car in car park.

General Comments:

This is a great car to drive and very reliable.

It is great for overtaking, even when carrying passengers or loads.

It isn't extremely economical, I find 30-40mpg for 1.4 engine is only OK.

Great boot, comfortable on safe journeys.

Gives a feeling of comfort and safety while on the open road.

Makes you glad you bought it, great car to look at and even if reviews say it's bland, it still catches eyes. Not bad for a family saloon.

Speedometer to be replaced but within 3yr warranty.

General Comments:

A nice car to drive. Very reliable and comfortable. Many electronic features.

Small boot space which can be a problem but plenty of room in the back.

1996 Nissan Almera Si 1.4 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

It has been in the garage 13 times for the alarm system and 3 times for a steering fault.

General Comments:

Nice car shame about the problems. Once this car is fixed I can not wait to get a different car of a different make. I must say Nissan Customer Services have tried very hard to help, but I still have the car!!!
