2000 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 from North America

Summary:

Always thirsty for gas, but still a good car

Faults:

Seats have started to wear badly and I ordered a set of leather seat covers.

Changed brake pads.

General Comments:

This is a nice car to drive. Although it's not the fastest car around, it gives the adequate torque when needed. My biggest issue with this car is the gas mileage I get from it.

Before purchasing the car, I read some comments about buying a gas guzzler, but not to this extent. I get about 18-21 and I know it's not normal. My 1999 Camry had better mileage than the Altima. I went to a mechanic who told me it was normal since it was a four banger with a 2.4 L. I can never go 5 days without refueling and I keep my speed under speed limit.

Other than that, it is a great car and even if it's five years old, it still drives pretty well. A bit noisy when I hit bump, but still a nice ride.

2000 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4L from North America

Summary:

All in all the car is on my favorites list, and I would definitely buy another

Faults:

The only problem I have ever had with this car was the brake pads went bad on it.

General Comments:

The altima is a well balanced car.

It handles well at high speeds and at cornering. I have had it up to 130mph and it was still driving fine. I have taken a loop off-ramp at 60mph without loosing control of the vehicle.

The car has great acceleration for it's size. It can pick up speed with ease both off the line and at higher speeds.

I enjoy most of the interior, however one thing I disliked about it was the front driver and passenger seats do not fold back as flat as I had hoped.

2000 Nissan Altima GXE 4 Cylinder from North America

Summary:

Good, reliable foreign car

Faults:

The right and left inner tie-rod ends had to be replaced when I purchased the car.

I also had to get the alignment re-done.

My electric window buttons had to be replaced.

The seat belts were replaced by the dealer free of charge.

General Comments:

This car is very reliable and other than minor repairs here and there, it has been a very good car.

It is cheap to maintain and everything works well.

I would recommend it for those looking for a cheap, reliable car.

2000 Nissan Altima GLE from North America

Faults:

I've had to replace the exhaust at 56,000 miles.

I also replaced the engine and transmission mounts at the same time. The car would make a very loud rattling noise when cold.

I had to replace the radiator at 56,500 miles.

When it rains heavily, my alarm system will go off while I'm driving.

My CD player was broken when I bought the car. I then had it replaced, but broke again after two months.

My front grille has fallen off twice due to poor screws underneath it.

General Comments:

The car seems to be slowly falling apart.

I would not recommend a Nissan Altima.

You should try to find the original owner of that car and find out if it was in any accidents as carfax doesn't list accidents that weren't reported. From reading your details, it sounds like that car was definitely in some accident and was put back together by novices.

I happen to own a 2000 Nissan Altima GXE, which I bought brand new. Seven years and 113k miles later, the car still runs, sounds, looks and smells like a new car. I was going to sell it simply to change cars, but I've to buy and still keep this since it's been so good to me.

Moral of the story (generally speaking)... it doesn't matter what car you have, if it was abused by the previous owner, then you've got yourself a lemon.

Good luck.

I currently drive a 2000 altima. For the most part the car runs good. I was in one large accident in 2004 where I was rear ended on the freeway and pushed into another car. Before then I had virtually no problems with the car other than your usual maintenance. But, after that accident the car has never been the same and I seem to be fixing things regularly. I have replaced the catalytic converter, exhaust manifolds, radiator, AC, and various belts. I attribute the problems to the accident and I don't hold it against Nissan or the car.
