2001 Nissan Altima GXE from North America

Summary:

A good car for local driving

Faults:

Rear sway bar bushings needed to be replaced, covered under warranty.

General Comments:

Shockly, this car is not good on gas. I have a friend who knows the same car and complains about the same problem.

Acceleration is very slow. Transmission slips every now and then. Went back to dealership service, they say car is OK.

Had a 1995 Maxima before this car. This car does not even compare to a Maxima.

Overall it is a good car and will get you to point A to point B without a problem.

I own a 2001 Nissan Altima SE, I've had to replace the rear sway bar twice, each time costing approximately $200. Otherwise, the car is reliable and gives good gas mileage.

I love my Altima! I have had mine for about 2 years now and I have never had it in the shop once for any reason. It does shake when its idling at the light in drive, but never dies. I would recommend any year of the Altima as a good car for travel or around town. You do get way better gas mileage on highways.

2001 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 from North America

Summary:

Cheap materials, not worth my 18K

Faults:

Ugh, lots of things. At 1500 miles, the spark plugs were out, one of the brake lights (warranty covered), and now the passenger side window, rear window totally out, rubbers all the way around, hub caps making extreme annoying noises.

General Comments:

Very nice ride, quiet, but the engine is kind of loud when first starting to accelerate.

Very, very uncomfortable driver's seat; makes your back hurt.

The looks suck. The Toyota Camry is much much better.

I agree with this comment about the 01 Altima. I drove a 93 when they first came out for 1K miles and was quite impressed so I bought a used 01 recently hoping the car would still feel good--Wrong!! I live in New England where the roads get these speed bumps called frost-heaves, which the Altima transmits right through my rear and into my back. Rides like a go-cart! Gas mileage is terrible for a 4cylinder (22MPG) and the engine is as noisy on takeoff as a 72 Corolla. I'm so mad at Nissan I could go out and buy a cheap American car!

2001 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 from North America

Summary:

A reliable family sedan for four

Faults:

Rear sway bar bushings were replaced under warranty.

Drivers and passengers side door rubbers were replaced under warranty due to deterioration of the rubber. However the highway wind noise is still prominent.

General Comments:

Performance is great even with the 155 hp twin cam engine.

The trans-axle is geared too low for a lot of highway driving. This results in increased engine RPM and wastes gas. (About 2800 rpm at the speed limit of 110 km/hr). I believe older Altimas use a 'taller' trans-axle ratio.

The interior is well laid out and comfortable. Wind noise is the only problem and the dealer could not or would not fix it. The warranty is now expired.

2001 Nissan Altima GXE 2.4 from North America

Summary:

The Altimate

Faults:

Front brake rotors warped. Covered under warranty.

General Comments:

I have nothing but positive comments on my Altima. The ride, handling, acceleration, seat comfort, fuel mileage, build quality, and mechanical quality are excellent. This car is a good balance between sportiness and luxury. The 8-way power driver's seat assures the perfect driving position. I have traveled many long distances up and down the East coast in my Altima, and it has proven extremely comfortable. The entire car is of very high quality. I highly recommend this vehicle to anyone.
