2005 Nissan Frontier SE 4.0 litre 265hp from North America

Faults:

After years of seeing the reliability of Nissan trucks, I was happy to see they completely changed the 05 Frontier.

This thing will drive right over the top of the Toyota Tacoma. In fact I was going to purchase the Toyota until I drove the Nissan Frontier.

I put a Leer cap with Yakima racks on it. I got rid of the tires and put on BFG all terrain radials, and put in Mobil 1 synthetic oil and "Bob's your uncle".

This is a great truck for anyone who likes off roading etc.

No complaints about the truck, except I had to replace a windshield already at 10,000 kilometers...

I don't miss a full size truck anymore. Go take one for a ride, you will love it

2005 Nissan Frontier NISMO 4.0 from North America

Summary:

The best truck I ever owned

Faults:

Front end noises when going on off road or over bumps.

General Comments:

Runs excellent a lot of power no need to push the gas to the floor. Just touch it and your gone. Really good in the snow becouse of the big off road tires limited slip rear end. No need to put it in four wheel drive most. I get about 15 MPG mixed driving it's not the best on gas maybe if I stop bring home the big girls from the bar I would get better gas mileage.

2005 Nissan Frontier LE 2.4 litre from North America

Summary:

Great truck

Faults:

Absolutely nothing except for the gas door. The small spring will not allow door to remain shut.

General Comments:

I still own my faithful 4Runner and since it was not going to quit after 320K miles, I decided to purchase a new vehicle. Originally my choice was the '05 Tacoma, but Toyota dealerships carried a small inventory with almost zero negotiations, I opt for the Nissan Frontier and couldn't be happier. I saved around $4 grand over a similar equipped Tacoma. The 2.4 with the automatic is not the quickest, but with a mid-sized frame, it does get up and go. My gas mileage has been good, around 18 city and 25 highway. The interior is extremely comfortable, easy access and great for long trips. The CD player with the 4 speaker system is adequate for me and the wife. Heck, she drives it more than I do. The extra cab allows seating for children and storage. Overall I am pleased with my Frontier and has been reliable after 10k miles of driving. With the aggressive design, Nissan has a winner in the Frontier and I have no regrets in my purchase.

I'm back again to comment on my original review of my '05 Nissan Frontier and I must say am impressed with the truck. I get approximately 22.8 mpg combined driving and have not had one problem after 80K miles. The 2.5 litre engine is under-powered, but I did buy it for fuel savings.

Don't let the body fool you. I was rear-ended by a youngster doing 50 in her Pontiac Formula. Luckily I had 880 pounds of bagged cement in the bed and though I was pushed about 15 feet after impact, the truck only sustained a bruised bumper. The Formula looked like it hit a freight train and totaled. No one was seriously injured but thanks to the Frontier, the wife and I were able to walk away. One tough and reliable truck. The next one I get will be the four door.

Summary:

Powerful work horse that's reliable and performs better then most full size truck out there

Faults:

None at all...

General Comments:

The truck has a lot of power that's just waiting to be let loose. You give it all you can throw at it and it asks for more. The drive is very comfortable and it's a pleasue to drive. Very reliable truck.

How can you call it reliable with only a few thousand on the clock?

25th Aug 2006, 21:07

I have a 2005 Frontier with 22,000 miles and not a single trip to a dealer for repairs. I have gotten at worse 19 mpg and at best 23.5 mpg, but average about 22 mpg. This is a 4x2 with a 6 speed crew cab.

With regard to power, all 265 hp are present and accounted for. I did put a K and N air filter on a few weeks back and bumped the average just a bit. I have 2 coworkers with identical trucks and they are seeing similar results. One of them drove took a straight interstate trip and topped at 25.5 mpg with the cruise sitting on 70. He got 23 going, but got a ticket at about 85 mph so came back a little more slowly.

Great truck! I highly recommend!

I don't believe 25.5 mpg with the V6. Sorry.

"I don't believe 25.5 mpg with the V6. Sorry."

I believe that the V6 is more than capable of 25 MPG. But not at 70 MPH like the original commenter stated. I think he may have miscalculated. 25 MPG is not out of the V6's range as long as it is driven frugally.
