1990 Nissan Maxima SE 3.0 liter from North America

Faults:

Bose stereo - speaker/amp blown $500 to replace (didn't do that).

Bose caseette never worked well. Did not fix.

Now stereo is almost worthless with whining noises and???

Mass air sensor went.

Timing belt went.

Oil pump failed.

Starter went.

PDL on front passengers side gone.

Power window on the passenger side rear gone.

The halogen headlights blow about every 4 months.

Had to replace the ignition wiring harness.

Clock never worked.

ABS sensor on the right front is shot.

General Comments:

Love driving the Maxima... hate the high repair costs and am looking forward to replacing it soon.

I was disappointed with all the equipment failures.

It isn't as though I didn't take good care of the beast!

Hey yeah, I have a question!

You said "Had to replace the ignition wiring harness", what is that? My key will go in the ignition, but it will not turn, it's just as if it's locked, and I know it's not the power steering, I'm not that dumb.. What is the problem with it?

And my front right door likes to stay locked from both sides, in and out. Other than that my car is in fine mechanical order..

My Bose tape deck didn't work either, and the speakers were blown, I don't know if the amp is, but probably.. the car is a 91 and I'm happy with it since it's my first car, tell me what you think at Ben@benduperroir.mail22.com

1990 Nissan Maxima GXE 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

A long lasting, fun to drive, four door sports car with expensive general maintenance

Faults:

Drive-chain and water pump replacement at about 100,000 miles (cost $600, but from a dealer).

Electric window motors all fail on a regular basis ($175 each from my local mechanic).

Electric antenna no longer goes down.

Standard Bose stereo/cassette is awful. Ear drum shattering static when you turn it on. Constant static when the radio is on. Cassette player no longer works. Only one speaker is still working.

Air conditioner works when it wants.

Digital clock only works for some reason when temperatures reach 90's (could they have made that a little harder to repair?)

General Comments:

Overall I'm happy with this car.

No major engine problems in over 200,000 miles.

General maintenance takes its toll on the wallet. When I finally paid off the bank I thought I was in the clear. I was wrong. Whenever I take it to the mechanic I can expect nothing less than a $250 bill.

I know I'm not the only one having problems with their windows, stereo and antenna. I only wish Nissan would admit to poor quality electronics and offer us an alternative.

I have 136,000 miles on my 1993 maxima. Some problems include: a radio antennae that will not go down, the Bose-radio-cassette sound system comes on after it has been turned on whenever it is ready, it also turns off in the same fashion, and the right-rear window motor just recently quit.

1990 Nissan Maxima V6 3.0L from North America

Summary:

One bad ass vehicle worth the effort (if it is treated right)

Faults:

Just a leak somewhere in or around the exhaust manifold which is a rare situation and fairly simple problem to remedy.

General Comments:

VERY good car and fast.

Nice handling, good suspension control system, and ABS.

It is a sports car and it shows every bit of it.

Gotten up from 0 to 60 in about 8 seconds.

This baby has pretty good gas mileage at about 24 mpg and it seems to run a while on fumes ;)

1990 Nissan Maxima SE 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Good performance, sub par reliability

Faults:

My transmission went out at 109,000 miles. Very expensive.

Had to replace the clutch at 100,000 miles.

Just recently had radiator fluid leaking from the engine block.

Replaced the altenator at 100,000 miles.

General Comments:

I generally trust Nissan. I purchased this car after extensive research and finding a great reputation for the Maxima and Nissan. It didn't work out like I thought it would. I believe that a previous owner abused my car.
