1995 Nissan Micra LX 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

The most reliable car I have ever owned!

Faults:

Fuel pump failed.

Apart from wear and tear items, this car is amazingly reliable.

General Comments:

This is our second household car, but it still gets a lot of use.

It may not look amazing, or be that fast. But as far as reliability goes and running costs go, this is the best car I have ever owned. It has more or less been faultless.

The car has covered 118,000 miles, but drives as good as the day I bought it. It's a real shame that Nissan is now owned by Renault, as I would not touch a newer one with a bargepole.

I have also owned 2 P10 Primera's; these were also amazing cars. The governments scrapage scheme won't make me part with this car, rust will eventually kill it I guess, as it is so reliable.

It is also quite nippy considering it is only a 1.0 litre, and it averages around 49 mpg no matter how I drive it.

If you are not bothered about looks and want cheap reliable motoring, I think that these cars take some beating. When it dies, it will probably be replaced with one of the last of the Almera's (with Nissan not Renault running gear) as I want something bigger. Again, probably a dull car to most, but a gem to those in the know. My Micra is amazing for a 14 year old car.

1995 Nissan Micra LX 1.3L from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Great cheap powerful little car!! Cheap fuel = save money!!!

Faults:

Left front light didn't work at purchase, replaced for $12.

Speedometer needle got sticky when parked under the sun for 5 minutes, it just wouldn't go back to 0km/h. I took the panel out and put some WD40 at the spring, it works fine now.

Two panel's back lights blew and replaced for $3

The gear shifter spring was broken, wouldn't go back to the middle. I fixed it myself.

No other problem has been found so far, since I've had the car for less than 3 weeks.

General Comments:

This is my first car and I'm very happy with it. It uses very little fuel compare with my friend's V6 Magna, his car uses double the fuel than mine =) 33L ran 550km

I don't have much experience with cars, but with its 1.3L engine I don't feel bad at all, the engine is more powerful than I thought a 1.3L would be. It can accelerate pretty fast to 60km/h if you want to.

Cornering is much better than my friend's Magna due the the light weight of this car. Lack of power-steering is not a problem at all because of this super light little car ;)

The boot is pretty big if you flip the back seat over, much bigger than I thought =p

Doors are huge too!!

I'll try to do some distance travel later when my study get less busy and see how this little lady will go.

1995 Nissan Micra 1.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Well worth the buy

Faults:

Small hole needing attention on underside sill.

HT leads needed replacing to give perfect start in damp weather conditions.

General Comments:

Excellent reliable car with almost no maintenance required. Any problems with starting, change the HT leads and that should solve the problem.

Fuel consumption 35mpg - 40mpg which is not very good.

Does anyone know how to boost the consumption, bearing in mind it is an auto 1995 Nissan Micra?

Only thing I can think is sell it and buy a manual. Give it a good service as well and the rest is driving style.

1995 Nissan Micra SLX 1.3L from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Excellent - A1 for reliability and ease of use

Faults:

Small hole in the exhaust - from when I bought it (sounds like it's got a sports exhaust).

Clutch cable split at 135,000.

Fan for the A/C only works on high.

General Comments:

This car has been an excellent little purchase - relatively cheap to buy and exceptionally cheap to run - at 150,000km it still does 450km on about 30L of fuel.

Seats are reasonably comfortable - we've done a few long drives in it and it's been no trouble.

Air con still is icy cold.
