1994 Nissan Primera eGT 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A very disappointing car - vastly overrated

Faults:

Suspension knocking - upper link replaced, this is a very common fault.

Engine is useless below 2500rpm with terrible jerkiness - a nightmare in traffic.

Build quality not very good with internal rattles, especially if you have the sun roof cover open, this rattles very badly so I haven't had the roof open since ownership.

General Comments:

The dealers are worse than useless.

The car goes like a pig until 3000rpm, then it's OK.

The power steering is far too light making the car feel unsafe and vague, especially in the wet when no warning is given as to when it might break away.

The ride is awful, the Mi16 handles better with a much better ride.

I own one of these, and find it's fine at low revs and in traffic. Has it been properly serviced? Check the distributer, and HT leads and plugs.

Maybe it was a badly maintained car? I am very very happy with it. I owned two Primera.

1994 Nissan Primera L 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An excellent family hatchback

Faults:

None yet, but I know that a drive shaft will be required soon as I can hear it tapping on sharp cornering.

General Comments:

This car is so reliable, just like the Toyota's. I have added LPG and it runs like a dream. It is so quiet on gas and returns excellent consumption. I covered 180 miles on £10 of gas the other week. Most of that was running around town. The tank is fitted in the rear and this still leaves lots of room for luggage.

1994 Nissan Primera SLX 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Drives and looks like new when it's old!

Faults:

Front roll bar drop links, 1 hour, £12 each.

Heater ballast resistor. Re-soldered.

General Comments:

Reliable and comfortable.

Enjoyable to drive with fine handling and very good power delivery.

37mpg in rural areas, 41 on the motorway.

Tyre noise can be a problem at speed with most tyres, but I have found Continental Premium Contacts to be quiet and very grippy wet/dry.

Summary:

Best handling family saloon I have driven

Faults:

Various suspension links.

Heater blower ballast.

General Comments:

Apart from usual suspension problems, very reliable. Fuel consumption heavier than 2-litre Cavalier, but still up to 37 mpg. Excellent handling and ride.

1994 Nissan Primera eGT 2.0 150 BHP petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Knocking from front suspension. (Apparently something to do with anti-roll bar)

Poxy horn.

General Comments:

Revvy engine but doesn't go like a train.

Handling fine but a bit clumsy if pushed.

Alloys only 14 inch - they look tiny on such a big car.

Naff exhaust note in standard form.

The Knocking noise you mention is probable the front suspension top links (very common)

54524 2F010 & 54525 2F010 about £80 from your dealer.
