2000 Nissan QX SE Maxima 2.0 petrol from UK and Ireland
Summary:
Lovely executive saloon
Faults:
Just wear and tear. The car was bought second hand from an enthusiast owner. I am also a Maxima QX fan and will look after this car well. It is generally reliable, looking through its large history file, however there are some expensive repairs, but nothing serious or unexpected of the age and mileage.
General Comments:
Nissan QX is better known as the Maxima in the USA.
In the UK this was not a popular car. Many other executive cars offered better. However for the money I feel this QX is underrated.
It looks like a bigger version of Nissan's Primera. My car is dark green. Standard alloy wheels. Not ugly, just boring. Inside is rather dull but functional. Seats are very comfortable and the SE model gets a tonne of electric features. No leather however on mine. Handling, braking and ride are all stable and smooth.
The biggest disappointment is the engine. With the auto box it is slow, taking what feels like 13 seconds to 60 mph. For a V6 engine this is poor. It isn't exactly economical either at a struggle for 30 mpg on average. You are better going for the bigger engine.
Still, cars like this are a rare sight these days and I just want to keep this one as an interesting second car, which it will do very well for lazy summer cruising.
Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

We bought a QX Auto SE new in 1998. A very nice underrated car. To date have completed 53000 miles, just passed its MoT. Never given any trouble, money spent in 28 years, brake calipers, battery, expansion valve on air con, welding, front suspension wish bones, alternator and ABS sensors. A most comfortable car, although expensive to buy, due to not being popular they were discounted. I have no wish to part with it, although now only traveling for an MoT and the rare ride. It does like petrol; the most it achieved was 30 mpg on a long journey. I have enjoyed the car since 1998.

I think you have the QX pretty well summed up. Yes, they are thirsty but if you only do a few thousand miles per year, the additional costs are marginal, particularly when they are so cheap as used buys.
I had a 1996 2.0S auto until 2004. Not blisteringly quick off the mark but a fine long distance cruiser. In S level trim, it was fairly basic.
In June 2024, I acquired a 1999 3.0 SEL auto with full leather. Drove it back from Aberdeenshire to Hampshire overnight and it covered the 600 mile trip admirably. Didn't turn the stereo on once as I enjoyed listening to the engine burble along at the legal limit. The 3.0 is a bit more gruff that the 2-litre.
Nice to relive a past motoring experience when it's even better than the original. It's not a bad car to work on either once you find your way around.
