1998 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Mediocre

Faults:

I bought this car new. It did not give any problems until 60,000 miles, but started giving some problems later on. Brakes had to be changed, belts also need replacement and suddenly one day the battery and the emergency brake light started showing up. Took it to Brake Max and they mentioned that the alternator had gone bad. I could not believe it!!. My other Japanese car still has the original alternator even at 110,00 miles. Brake Max charged $350/- to replace the alternator. The power steering pump also had problems. I really don't think I will buy a Nissan again.

No problem with my nissan sentra, nice to drive, simple, a great commuter vehicle, a gas saver and a nice comfortable ride.

A nice CD player, and that it all I had to invest on.. great little car.

All of the problems you describe are regular maintenance items, I do not understand your complaint. You should try your hand at home repair, you can save a lot of money on regular maintenance like that.

1998 Nissan Sentra GXE 1.6 Liter from North America

Summary:

Long distance won't bleed your wallet

Faults:

The brake system in my car has been poor at best, but Nissan is not known for it's braking system.

I have had no major problems since I have owned the car that wasn't covered by warranty.

General Comments:

I would recommend this car for a high school to college student or someone who needs to drive a lot.

1998 Nissan Sentra GXE 4 Cylinder from North America

Summary:

You get what you pay for

Faults:

I have had way too many problems with the steering and alignment of this vehicle. I just had it aligned again for the fifth time since I've owned it.

The brakes have also been worn through rather quickly on this car. Two new sets already.

Engine is pretty sluggish after 60K miles. Even though it is only a 4 Cyl. engine, the acceleration and power seems to have slowed faster than other cars that I have had with similar engine sizes.

The dealer has been less than helpful on most things. About one month after I took it in for the 60,000 mile service I checked the oil, and it was a quart over the full mark. Of course because I had waited for one month to check the oil, I had no proof that the dealer screwed up so they would not do anything about it. I never thought that I would have to check to make sure the dealer was putting the right amount of fluid in the car.

The cup holder placement is very poor.

General Comments:

No major engine work done on the vehicle.

Exterior and interior of the car have remained very nice. The interior is spacious for the size of the car. The backseat is easily able to fit a couple average sized people comfortably.

1998 Nissan Sentra GLE 1.9L(I THINK) from North America

Faults:

Thankfully nothing yet, the car is just 9 months old.

General Comments:

A really nice little car, handles very well, seems to have enough power for its size and gets very good mileage.
