1991 Nissan Stanza GXE review from North America
"A real bargain for a college student"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
1. Oil leak from the timing cover gasket.
2. Broken exhaust manifold bolts.
3. Bad coolant temperature sensor.
(1) Is an expensive repair, although arguably not really needed. I replaced all gaskets, timing chain, tensioner, guide and water pump because labor cost is the same as only replacing the gasket.
(2) Happened at 165,000 miles.
(3) Happened at 162,000 miles.
General comments?
Reliable considering the mileage of the car.
Loads of torque, useful when going uphill. 138hp from a 1991 4-cyl car is great.
Gas mileage is decent, achieving 33 mpg on the highway. In cities, the variation is big: 20-23 in winter, and 23-25 in summer.
Interior doesn't look cheap. Exterior style is OK, not overly aggressive.
Bought it from the first owner for much cheaper than even cars smaller than it (Civic, Corolla, Tercel).
