2007 Opel Astra OPC 2.0 turbo petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great value, great looking, great pace, but handling lets it down slightly

Faults:

Nothing has gone mechanically wrong with the car.

The Recaro seats are comfortable, but they "creak" a little where their bolted to the floor.

No wheel jack or spare wheel came with the car, just a puncture repair kit, I'd rather have the spare wheel, but I didn't get the choice here.

General Comments:

I love the looks of this car. The center tail pipe looks different, but good, but I'd have prefer-ed a double pipe system with pipes coming out either corner of the rear end.

I'm a little bit past the "boy racer" age, but this car has brought it back again and I feel it suits the slightly more mature boy racer look.

There's great sprint ability in this car, 0 to 100km in 6/6.5 seconds. That's brilliant for 35k euro new.

However the handling is a little scary at times, but I'm not one for ripping around back roads at crazy speeds so the handling is more than sufficient for my pace.

The room in the back is a little scarce, but that's not what you buy this car for.

2007 Opel Astra Enjoy 1.3 CDTI from Denmark

Summary:

Surprisingly good

Faults:

Nothing.

General Comments:

This being the Wagon model, it has plenty of space, and is a good load hugger.

The little 1.3L CDTI diesel engine is an absolute gem. It puts out 90Hp and 200Nm of torque. It is surprisingly quick, considering the small size of the engine.

It does however lack power when below 1500rpm, that's why I only give it 5 for performance.

The fuel economy is extremely good. On a high speed (140-150km/h) motorway trip to Prague (about 1000km) it did an average of about 19,4km/l.

On the smaller country roads an speed of about 90km/h, it is possible to get 23-25km/l, which I find very good indeed, considering the size of the car.

I have an Opel Astra 1.3 diesel Enjoy model 2011. As you said, it is an amazingly smooth car when the engine is cold. When it gets warm, then sometimes I lose 40% of the power, then it becomes a tractor. I have told this to Opel, but they are unable to find the fault, as this is only a periodic fault. It is annoying that this happens without warning. Only answer I got from Opel is that it regenerates / cleans and you cannot stop it. I am very unhappy that I bought this car.

2007 Opel Astra Classic II 1.4 Twinport Ecotec from Romania

Summary:

Reliable and comfortable, cost effective to have

Faults:

No major problems whatsoever so far.

Small squeaking sound in the seat - solved at the dealer.

General Comments:

First thing I like - the car handles very well on the road.

Very stable and reliable.

Comfortable for long drives (longest drive so far this year - 34 hours when going to Turkey on holiday:) )

I would appreciate a stronger engine, but then the fuel consumption would also be higher.
