The cylinder head was leaking oil after the first day, had it checked and found that the gasket was not done properly.
Manufacturer recalled the model, due to some problems with the alternator belt.
Battery and alternator failed twice during the warranty period.
Most models (including mine) had some defects with the airflow meter (sort of an electronic sensor). This failure had resulted in an abnormal loss of engine power.
Window panes and seats rattle.
Airbag sensor indicator - had some problems too. It went on, on several occasions. Finally the service center decided to solder the connection under the driver's seat.
Due to the above mentioned problems, resale value, dropped tremendously.
I like its general appearance, and whilst diving it feels robust with good road holding.
Quite responsive for a 1700cc turbo diesel engine.
Comfortable to drive with a "safe and secure" feeling.
Hi, the abnormal loss of power in your Opel Astra is something that I have checked with my car as well, it also has an abnormal loss of power right now. The garage tried checking the air flow meter (electronic sensor) but according to them its not the problem. They have checked everything from coolant contaminants, fuel pump system, engine leaks, even checked for possible overhaul, but they are puzzled. It's a weird problem, no matter how much they try to readjust the engine over and over again, the loss of power comes back and the engine becomes off and shaky. I need help. thanks.
I bought my Opel Astra a year ago. I want to trade it in because it has a habit of jumping like a kangaroo at times and very jerky handling from first gear. However I was told by a local garage that a Opel don't make Astras and that mine is a Kadett. He looked inside and said the seats and lack of aircon means it can't be an Astra. It says Astra on the rear. He also says this means he will only be able to give a very low value for it as if it needs parts they will have to come from Germany. I am a bit worried!
Hi, I have an Opel Astra G wagon 1999 and am experiencing major problems with the airbag system. I have just replaced the Main Module and yet the warning light is still coming on. HELP!! As for the loss of power problem, it turns out that it is a failure of the coil pack. If just one part of the pack fails then one gets a dramatic loss of power, and "bunny-hopping". Apparently a common problem with these cars, and kind of expensive too! the only reason I know this is I have had to replace this also!
I have a strange problem whit my astra 1.7 diesel, i foun the oil stuffed in the cooling tank of the radiotor, an is making pressure to de oil filter, some people sad that it's a cooler that works whit whater and oil that its broken and others say thar its the garniture of the kasket... who can help my?
Hello...i have bought an opel astra club 1.4 1999 3 months ago... the other day I was driving my oil light came on so I put oil into it... now the car is making a nocking noise and there is no power in the car... had a guy to look at it an hes not fully sure whats wrong with it... there is oil leeking somewer in the engine wethre its internal leak or external...??could any1 please help me out in solving this... maybe other people have had this similer problem...???
I had an Opel Astra 1.4 car and I used it from 2000-2006 and it was a perfect car. I did about 160 K in the car. Hardly any problems. There was a oil leak in the power steering that was the only one. Latter part of 2006 the Fuel pump was replaced. Yes it is not powerful in acceleration, but very steady car. It is very comfortable car to drive, it had a Blauphunt audio system too.
