2000 Peugeot 306 D Turbo from Netherlands - Comments

"Avoid this car!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

General comments?

It is a car with nearly nice performance, but forget its reliability. Besides, the car comfort is appalling! Peugeot could improve the 306's (and others) interior... save your money and buy another car.

I don't agree. The new 306 HDi D Turbo is a cracker! It's the thinking man's GTi.

I have had the new HDI from new and it is a superb car! Refined, smart inside and out, and generally a nice all round car offering luxuries and style. It's the poor mans GTi-6!! 9/10 all round.

I'm from Portugal, Lisbon and I am just going to buy the car this week, thanks for your opinions but I really like the car and best of all its engine is the big thing that counts.

Nice Chassis, hard shock absorvers but reveals a great behavior. Good braking level. Two problems with the engine probably due to diesel fuel quality in Portugal. Hope to be solve!

This car has good engine, but not the finish or comfort of my previous Rover 218SLDT. The interior stowage is none existent, a wee bit disappointed with my purchase of this new car.

My 306 D Turbo is a 1994 model, but still in immaculate condition - I love it! I will be buying an HDi next. Just wish I could afford one now! Having worked in the motor trade, the 306 is one of the best hatches that I have driven, great fun!

In my opinion Peugeot could improve the 306's and others interior. Some other brand cars with a similar price have more accessories than a 306.

I bought my China Blue Hdi 306 in December last year and I know it was a better choice than the GTi-6. Just look at all those miles to the gallon! No problems.

Well, I first had a GTi-6 and now have added a Turbo D GLX. They are not the best built cars when it comes to interiors but they certainly have great engines and handling. Reliability has also not been a real problem. Although I must say that the GLX interior seems far more able to stand abuse than the GTi-6. To the poster who had a Rover previously, I used to own a Rover 418GSD (also with the Peugeot engine like yours) and it was one great car - especially the interior, but the 306 is not far from it - the big diff is the pathetic glovebox with the 306, which won't even hold the user manual!

As regards the original poster - please elaborate on your problems.

I have to agree with most of the other comments. I have owned a 1999 Dturbo for almost 12 months and it has been 100% reliable. The car handles superbly, looks great and does over 45mpg. The car will wipe the floor with Golf TDI's and other turbo diesels. I will definitely buy another.

I have a V-reg 2L HDi and and it's the best car I have owned.

It's lively for a diesel and handles very, very well indeed. Great fun, would recommend them all round.

I've read all of the above comments and would agree

that owning a 306 dturbo hdi has been a pleasure.

I bought mine two months ago, I get almost 500 miles

on one tank of fuel and it hardly matters how I drive it.

I've also owned a Mercedes (190e classic '97), BMW (325i '90, lush, but expensive to run) Audi's (1800 turbo 98, again juicy) and Fords (focus, didn't think much of it), they've all been good cars, but nothing can touch this on fuel economy.

The car can be noisy at times (mainly on start up and for about 5-10mins following), but my advice is buy a good stereo, think of the money your saving on fuel!!

I have recently purchased a 1999 V registered Peugeot 306 HDi Meridian, it is 1st class. The performance is superb and 50 mpg to boot, the interior in mine is excellent with 1/2 leather trim cd player etc, I would reccomend this car to anyone, but I would say the Meridian is worth going for rather than the LX or GLX as the interior is that little bit nicer.

Never mind the good looks an reliabilty of the 306. My 306 D Turbo HDI has just gone to car heaven thanks to the crazy driver who hit me head on. I just thank the added protection of the front and side airbags, which I believe saved my life. I am definately looking for another 306 of the same model, as I feel I owe it to my poor car.
