2009 Peugeot 407 Sport 2.2 HDi twin turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

More fun than previous german cars, and a genuine pleasure to drive

Faults:

Creaking drivers seat. Dealer replaced. Problem sorted.

General Comments:

This car is very quick and pulls extremely smooth due to the twin turbo. Turbo lag almost eliminated. Handles like it's on rails (nearly as good as my old 405 Mi16, only let down by the car being heavier).

As with all Peugeot's, that perfect balance between grip, comfort and body roll.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? Yes

Oh! Beautiful machine. The Peugeot 407 is now in its fifth year from beginning of production, and her quality is mature.

So her reliability is worthy of Peugeot's long reputation of being a high quality marque, I believe.

Especially your version, the 2.2-litre turbodiesel is the best variant of whole 407 series, for excellent engineering and respectable economy. Above all, she is said to reach 150mph (240km/h) in a well loosened-up example, despite manufacturer's data of 137mph (220km/h)! It's astonishing for a 170bhp motor.

Along with it, the V6 variants of 407, both 3.0 V6 petrol and 2.7 V6 diesel guises, can reach 155mph (250km/h) on several occasions, much faster than quoted data of 143mph (230km/h).

The high standard of compromise between total comfort and cruising ability, is the very tradition of the Peugeot brand, so the newest 407 is on it.

What MPG are you getting?

I'm doing 60,000 miles a year. Brilliant car!

Anything around 45 mpg is about right for the 2.0/2.2 HDi engines with a manual transmission. Expect a lot less from the automatic.
