2002 Pontiac Aztek 3.4 V6 from North America

Summary:

Perfection wrapped up in a style unlike any other

Faults:

No problems at all! Not one thing has gone wrong!

General Comments:

I bought my 2002 Pontiac Aztec used in early 2004. It's red with moon roof, roof rack, and all the usual power accessories.

The Aztek gets better gas mileage then all other mid-sized SUVS, such as the Ford Explorer, Chevy Blazer, Dodge Durango, or Jeep Grand Cherokee. Plus the Aztek is wider then any of them! The Aztek definetely has a better ride and handles better too! Not to mention rear-air, which most other SUVs don't have.

My favorite thing about the Aztek is that it doesn't look like everyone else's vehicle! It doesn't blend in with the crowd of hum-drum same ole boring designs.

I was glad to read this review after reading of the problems others have had with their Aztek. I just purchased a 2003 Aztek AWD a few hours ago. I agree with the reviewer's statement that the Aztek looks like no other SUV. Actually, that's the main reason I bought it. Being 6ft - 3in tall, I also appreciate the leg room and the overall roominess of my Aztek.

So far, I like the feel of the ride and the way it handles the road. As mentioned above, the Aztek has a very unique look. I have only seen three other Azteks on the road here in Baltimore County, Maryland. As with the reviewer, I am glad that the Aztek doesn't blend in with all the other SUVs. It's cool to be different and to be noticed for driving a unique vehicle.

As for the problems others have reported the Aztek of having, I will address any problem that may occur before it has a chance to cause additional problems. Though problems do occur, I suspect that there may be more to the reports of problems than others are willing to admit... such as mishandling the vehicle while driving it and doing things that the vehicle wasn't intended to do.

But I must say, "I am very excited about buying my 2003 Aztek AWD." Wish me luck and happy driving.

I absolutely love my aztec. We purchased the camping package that allows you to turn it into a "tent" which was very handy when I went on the usual family camping trip with a newborn. The back is very roomy, especially with the seats folded up. I had an air mattress in the back and it was my kind of camping. I have to agree with the comment before about being tall and having plenty of leg and head space. I am 6'1" and my husband 6'7". My aztec is yellow and I love how unique it is. People compliment me on it in parking lots and ask how I like it. I plan on keeping it for a very long time!!

2002 Pontiac Aztek 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Unique-looking, great ride, comfortable and ROOMY!

Faults:

The only problem we've had so far is that sometimes you have to press the rear hatch button more than once for it to release.

General Comments:

We have nothing, but good things to say about this car so far. It gets good gas mileage, is very comfortable, handles great, rides nicely and is SO roomy! The cargo space is actually wider than my Dodge Durango, so when I want to haul things, I call on the Aztek :-) My husband jokes that we should trade the Durango in and get another Aztek.

2002 Pontiac Aztek 2.2? 6 cylinder from North America

Summary:

Good handling, good price, great acceleration, I love it!

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

I bought this vehicle because it handles and feels like a car, plus I'm riding high, which I had gotten used to in my GMC.

Very roomy and hauls lots of stuff cross-country well (done this twice so far).

Gas mileage is excellent for this size car - about 27 mpg highway. Not so good in the city, but I can live with that.

Eye catching - people either love 'em or hate 'em. I personally thought it was totally ugly until I drove it, then it grew on me fast enough to buy it the next day.

The cooler is, well, cool! The storage options for the cargo area rock. Sorry, I don't have the tent.

I felt it was a little pricey, but then I want this car for the price of a Kia! Oh well. A good buy nonetheless.

Lived in Alabama during the summer and the A/C was always cold. Now I live in northern Ohio and cold startups are rough, but she kicks on without too much argument. Superb handling in the snow - I have good tread on all-weather tires and they have done excellent so far even in heavy snow.

Please keep posting how you like your Azte, we are thinking of buying one when we move back to the states later this year. It's a steal with a $4750 military rebate, plus a five year warranty.

Addendum to the original survey from the author: At 45,000 (last week) the front wheel bearings on both sides began to fail. I got them repaired, but watch out if this happens to you. A catastrophic failure can result in the wheels falling off the vehicle, which is considered bad by most. Also, the A/C blower is sticking on high all the time. This is a relatively simple repair inside the passenger's side dash.
