1999 Pontiac Grand Am GT from North America

Summary:

Good looking, poorly made

Faults:

I have had to replace the rotors and brake pads 3 time within about 14 months.

The volume control on the radio was defective (as the dealership informed me).

The original battery died out when the car wasn't even a year old.

The stereo display on the car has gone out.

The front headlamps are incredibly inconvenient and difficult to change. If your car is under warranty the dealership charges $400.00 to change.

The transmission and power steering lines have had leaks.

The sunroof often has problems opening or closing.

General Comments:

The car is very sharp looking.

It is a very comfortable car to ride in.

The sound system is terrific.

The leg room in both the front and the back is larger than most cars of that caliber.

I was reading your comment and noticed that you had to replace your rotors and brake pads often. I've had the same problem. And right now I'm actually having a problem with the front right break. It's making this squeaking noise. I'm fed up with the car. I've had so much replaced in it. And now I'm having a HUGE problem with the Security feature.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 2.4 DOHC from North America

Summary:

Fast Honda passer

Faults:

Gas gage was bad when I got the car dealer fixed it.

Change oil light comes on too soon.

Radio switch is going bad.

The car does not do well in rain.

General Comments:

Doesn't leak a drop of oil.

Average on gas.

Very nice speed pick up.

My car has out run Honda's with out any problems.

You don't have to go broke to make it faster, sorry foreign cars, but this girl will stick with American style.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 3.4 from North America

Summary:

Beautiful Burden

Faults:

Replaced ALternator.

The battery exploded.

Very, very bad traction.

Horrible gas mileage, it is a thirsty car.

Insurance is insane on it.

Headlight cover is crackling.

Paint is chipping.

Rear wheel covers have turned yellow.

Drivers side seals leak water into floorboard when it rains.

Back seats make funky sounds when you sit on them.

General Comments:

It's been pretty good, but with the gas prices being at an all time high I can no longer afford this gas hog. I slip when it rains all the time. I had a wreck going 25 miles per hour. It did however as someone else commented, hold up very well.. it is very sturdy. This car is beautiful... but it's not for me.

I wouldn't get rid of it just yet. My car was drinking gas too, but it turns out it wasn't; the fuel gauge may be wrong, the dealer fixed it and I have been fine ever since.

Everyone puts down the Grand Am. It's nice to hear you like it. Most of these reviews I find are not real. If they would open their eyes, they would see there's plenty of Hondas and Toyotas with more major problems than the Grand Am.

I love my 1999 SE 2.4 DOHC. There have only been issues with the door panel cloth coming loose; NOT HARD TO FIX.

And the brakes, I would rather these problems than a foreign car's issues any day. You don't need to go broke, just to make them faster.

P.S. MY CAR HAS 91000 ON IT, AND STILL RUNS VERY STRONG.

1999 Pontiac Grand Am SE 4 cylinder. from North America

Summary:

Not bad for the money, save some of your big down payment for repairs,

Faults:

The glass got scratched from rolling the windows up and down.

Replaced seal around gas pump hole, it would leak gas when full (extended warranty).

Divers Power seat doesn't work.

When it is real cold the windshield wiper fluid freezes because of bad engineering.

Had brake problems until I bought after market rotors and pads.

Fan blower settings 1 and 2 doesn't work anymore.

Replaced passenger-side window motor.

General Comments:

For several things going wrong with it in 4 years, I don't think its that bad of a car.

The engine is working great still.

I am scared to take my chances on another grand am.

As for the washer fluid, consider this: Winter Formula, it has special antifreeze in it, and it don't hurt to use it in the summer either, I have a 2002 Alero, but am looking for a 1999 or 2000 grand am or alero for my new driver son, my alero had the same fan motor problem, just replaced the 63 dollar switch, no more problems. BTW, Alero's and Grand Am's are the same car with slightly different looks if you didn't know.
