1993 Pontiac Grand Am SE from North America - Comments

"An awesome, reliable, fast, car!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Brakes were a little loose, all I had to do was get them tightened.

General comments?

I love this car! It gets up to speed quickly, takes corners good, brakes are nice and responsive, burns rubber when you want it to!

Loud stereo (no static)!

Good luck... my 93 Grand Am SE 2.3 liter was running great... until I hit 100 thousand miles...

I replaced all three motor mounts, totalling about $350, new struts, new cat. converter, now the rotors are torn up and need to be replaced.

Who knows what else is in store for me... oh yeah - new bushings and bearings in the front... not to mention, even after replacing all three mounts - the transmission mount, top motor mount and the strut mount, my engine is STILL flopping around under the hood... that I believe is a bad mechanic problem or mis-diagnosis, but I am warning you - be careful... I loved my GA until it hit 100 thousand miles, and then it all went to hell.

This car is the money pit! Definitely made for parts only! A definite DO NOT BUY! Trust me. The only thing I haven't had to replace is the radio knobs!

I've NEVER had a problem with my grand am, and its at 250,000 miles! Only thing I ever did was replace the alternator once. Tires and brakes as usual. You just don't know how to take care of your car!

I just wanted to say my 1993 Pontiac Grand Am has been a pain. It has 97,000 miles on it and I have had it for 3 years. For the 3 years that I have owned it I have had a cracked head, blown head gasket, timing chain went, transmission went, motor mount went, I've changed the brakes 3 times and went through 3 batteries. That totaled around 3,000 dollars and that's not including towing costs from it leaving me stranded. I recently took it in for an oil change and I was told my ball joints on both sides are shot and I need new struts and a tire alignment. That totals 800 more dollars. I never seem to get the loan paid off because I keep taking small loans out to fix it. I will never buy another Pontiac again!!!

At about 200,000 miles currently. Nothing but problems once it hit about 150,000 miles. Cracked radiator, bad reservoir tank, blown head gaskets, motor mounts, bad alignment when I got it from who knows what, overheats easily, leaks oil, smells really bad when you turn it off, smells like gas really bad when you turn it on, electric windows have shorts in them, drivers window doesn't even roll down (not fun when going through drive-thrus or getting pulled over by the way). After I got the motor mounts fixed the car still feels bumpy, maybe that's just the way it is.

And the best part: It stalled out on me going down a steep curvy hill and almost killed me!! Steering locked and emergency brake wouldn't even stop the car!! It just kept going.

On a good note, it has a pretty good radio for being stock. It's spacious inside. Pretty comfortable to drive. The poor thing must have had a bad owner before me to have all these problems, because I try to take pretty good care of it.
