I have a 1999 Grand am, and I love it. I have had no problems, other than an alternator and fuel filter replacement. It's got almost 90,000 miles on it, and it still runs like it was new. I don't know, maybe I'm lucky, but I love this car and have had no problems with it.

I have a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am, and I love it even though I have had to get my brakes done 3 times, new alternator, new battery, new serpentine belt and fix passenger side window which fell off the track somehow, but the car is really great... the only problem I'm having now is coolant leakage which stinks, but my car has more than 100,000 miles on it. I just change the oil ALL the time, but yet I have never had a tune up... hopefully soon though! I'll be getting the 2004 Pontiac Grand Am in a couple months that's how much I love my car.

I have a 1999 Grand Am that was bought brand new. I must say I agree that the car is not built all that great. I have had a new alternator, brakes I don't know how many times, rotor at least 4 times, wheel bearings 2 times, a new water pump, a new serpentine belt, the back deck rattles nonstop, my service vehicle soon light has been on nonstop because the dealer can't figure out why it is on. My radio backlight does not work and the buttons have rubbed off. All of my windows stick when you try to roll them down and get stuck down. And to top it all off-- I found out today that the car needs $1700 worth of work. Now its power steering and the manifold. I like the style of the car just too many problems!!!

Hey, I have 1999 Grand Am SE with the 3.4L V6. I've had it since I bought it new in 99. its ran great for me and its always been dependable. The car has 121000 miles on it. Recently however, it has been doing some strange things.. and I'm hoping that somebody here can help me figure out what it is.. with out taking it to the dealership and spending thousands just to have them diagnose it.. Recently I decided that it was time to have the transmission cleaned and flushed. I took the car to the dealership where I bought it, and now the tranny slips sometimes when I start off. and I have noticed that when it shifts from 3rd to 2nd when I am gradually decelerating it bangs into gear.

In the last few months, I've noticed a slight taping sound in the motor, I keep the oil clean, and it doesn't burn any nor does it leak, so I am trying to decide if its the valves or the lifters. Other things I have noticed in the last few months, are not as major, such as the display on the stereo goes wacky every once in a while and displays strange symbols and other things. Also, the "Low Oil" warning light comes on all the time, and the oil level is where it is supposed to be, and the car sometimes jerks when i press the gas and the speedometer goes crazy. If anybody else is experiencing these things.. please let me know..

I bought a 99 Grand Am in 2000 and I have had nothing, but problems from the moment I drove it off the lot. The day I bought it after taking it off the lot it stalled. Talk about an omen. Regardless, I have had problems with brakes, rotors, power steering, the steering rack replaced 4 TIMES (that's right, I said 4, the trunk leaks, the drivers side window leaks, the security light stalls the car, and the service engine light is continuously on with no help from the dealership. They just tell me my gas cap is dirty. Okay, whatever. Regardless, the newest issue is an overheating problem, and reading your postings I am seeing that as a trend. I know my car is getting older, but if this is going to be a recurring problem, I would like to know so I can finally unload it. Thanks!
