2002 Pontiac Grand Am GT from North America - Comments

"An affordable high performance, for it's class, sports sedan"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

After having it for one week the rear speakers started making a crackly sound.

Three days after that, I had trouble getting the sunroof to open, it would only open occasionally.

When taken into the shop, was giving a Ford Taurus to drive for 2 days.

Went to get the car, and everything was fixed, they told me that there was one wire that controlled the "Sound and Sun" package and it wasn't screwed in all the way.

General comments?

I've had this car since the very first day of 2002, and those are the only things that have gone wrong, very minor problems, no major ones. I love the acceleration, and the control. I do have a problem impressing people by peeling out, yes the car DOES peel out, but not for very long, the traction control stops the wheels, then starts them slowly again when it realized there is low traction. But the 0-60 in 7 1/2 seconds is awesome. Very flashy car. I love all the gadgets and the car itself. Wonderful car!

I'm not sure if the GTs are like the SEs, but on my Grand AM SE I can turn the traction control off and I've noticed a bit of a difference. Although the 2.2L's can't peel out all that great it does do a little better.

You can also turn the traction control off in the Grand Am GT's. They will pill out better with it off. The Grand Am GT's do pill out better than the Grand Am SE. I would also recomend trying some racing tires.

I just purchased a 2002 Grand AM GT Sedan and I love it. Its quick and real nice. But I notice that I can feel every bump in the road. Has anyone else had this problem? But other than that, It's an awesome car.

Yes, I had an 02 gt. the feel of the road is due to the low profile tires. but that was the least of my worries... the car was bought new and at three thousand miles the window track broke, making it inoperable. I owned the car less than a year and the same repair was performed 5 times. we tried to file the lemon law on it, but they always said it was a different part causing the failure... we pawned the car off on someone else at 24,000 miles. in my opinion if you want quality, don't buy a pontiac... anyone else had this problem?

Yes, I purchased a 02` grand am Gt1 and it is great, acceleration could be improved, it DOES burn out a lot better with traction control off, the Ets button.. I raced a stock 03` bonneville SSeI and beat it~I did have a clutch pre-ordered so it did cost a few thousand more since Grand am Gt's do not come in clutch I ordered straight from the shop.. Well if you need an affordable Mid-performance car Pontiac Grand am Gt1 is great~!

Great car, handles very well. Some people complain about a bumpy road, but sports tuned suspensions are bumpy to enhance "road feel." You want to know exactly what your tires are doing for better control, and this car gives you just that. I love my '02 GT, had minor problems with it. Currently looking for new speakers because mine tore.

If you really hate your tires, turn off the ETS (traction control), apply the emergency brake, and stomp the gas pedal to the floor... best burn outs ever!

I just bought my '02 GT and although it kicks my '91 Jeep Cherokee's, but, it has its problems.. The first week it got it the windows belts broke. I had to replace the turn switch that these cars are so notorious for. And now, the rubber on the inside of the door it creating black streaks on the windows when I roll it down. I love the car though. Fine piece of machinery. Being a high school boy though it shot my insurance to 250.00 /month. But I'm loving every minute of it.

I have a 2002 GT1. I love the car after I replaced the O2 sensor. The top end of the motor. The turn signal... well let's just say if it can go wrong with this car I had to do it. But after all that I love it. Now I'm turning it into the sc/t.
