1992 Pontiac Sunbird LE 2.0L 4L OHC MPFI from North America

Summary:

Inexpensive and surprisingly high performance

Faults:

Paint on grille is badly faded.

Vinyl dashboard shrank from sunlight and pulled up slightly from console.

Had to replace all four brakes, both rotors, and turn drums.

Right rear wheel cylinder burst and lube inside got in the brake.

Replaced the battery.

Replaced the alternator.

Water pump started leaking and had to be replaced.

Replaced timing belt.

Replaced spark plugs and wires.

Had to put four new tires on it.

Overflow tank cracked and had to be replaced.

All radiator hoses had to be replaced.

The thermostat keeps going bad. I have replaced it three times.

The PVC valve hose runs across the top of the intake manifold and keeps splitting from the heat. This hose is hard to find, and patching it or splicing a piece of another hose on with a clamp never lasts long.

The wheel bolt for one of the lug nuts snapped off and had to be replaced.

The courtesy lights behind the radio controls and shifter have gone out.

General Comments:

This car has great acceleration and handles really well.

It gets great gas mileage.

I have had to put some work into it, but this car takes a lot of abuse and still looks and runs great.

I love this car, and intend to keep it as long as possible. I would buy another one.

1992 Pontiac Sunbird GT V6 3.1 from North America

Summary:

Great look, great performance, good price

Faults:

I had to replace the power steering pump.

It cost about 500 bucks to only replace the "Y" for the double exhaust.

Replaced the oil gauge.

The "check engine" light went on frequently because of a bad sensor.

General Comments:

If you forget this little disagreement, this is the best buy of my life (4000$ can).

It handle very well, and is very comfortable for long rides.

It's also very powerful for this kind of vehicle.

It was also oiled each year and there is no rust on it!

1992 Pontiac Sunbird GT 3.1 fuel injected from North America

Summary:

It's a great car if you can keep it rust free!

Faults:

- Body is in poor shape, lots of rust.

- Rust holes in the firewall, rain gets in and soaks the carpet.

- The sunroof leaked.

- Door hinges are rusting so the doors are starting to sag.

- Mufflers went and we couldn't find a replacement for the passenger side. It's set too close to the tire so I had to buy cherry bombs (basically straight-pipes) in order to get them to fit. Now it's loud and has a bit more horse power.

General Comments:

It has great handling, the steering is nice and tight.

Can beat most sports cars (Daytonas, Civics, etc.)

The center console tends to shake at higher speeds.

The car's speedometer maxs out at 160 and the governor kicks in at around 180 km/h, so it's not too great for long distance races.

I hope you don't think a Honda Civic is a sports car! It is a little cookie cutter economy car. A T-bird is a sports car, a BMW Z8 is a sports car, any Porsche is a sports car, NO Honda will EVER be a sports car. Please try to beat a REAL sports car with your S-Bird.

1992 Pontiac Sunbird SE Convertible 3.1L V6 from North America

Summary:

A great car

Faults:

I noticed it needed a new alternator 1 week after I got it, the dealer had given me a 60 day power-train warranty, so I got that for free.

Miscellaneous leaks have occurred (transmission fluid, oil, and power steering).

General Comments:

It's a great car, and I love all the options it came with.

Power windows, power locks, cruise control, power roof, optional dial cluster, and best of all the 15" wheels.
