I am an owner of a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire SE Sedan (66,124mi) and most of the problems I have read on here have not yet happened to me. I have experienced the blower motor problem with my car not wanting to work on (1 or 2) only 3 & 4. Simply replaced the blower motor resistor. Problem solved (for now). Also was told of an possible leak in my heating ducts causing water and leaves to come in and burn if the heater is on. Nasty smell trust me. Plan on getting that checked out. Today I had the Service light and ABS light come on together and my Traction Control Light too indicating that it was off. But once I arrived at my destination it went off and has not come back on. Not sure what caused this, but I think it has something to do with the fact I had a Cold Air Intake put on and maybe the computer timing is off or something causing everything else to go crazy. ABS was coming on by itself for no reason for a while, then this. A Recall does sound very right for these problems. Good luck to everyone else.

I have a pontiac sunfire 2001 I had the problem with the car stalling and the dash lights doing weird things when I took it to the dealership they told me to try tightening all my electrical because I was also experiencing low fuel mix to my injectors so it was sending more fuel and chewing gas like we drink water anyway I went home started tighening eletrical and the terminal snapped right off my starter solinoid haven't had that problem since I replaced with an aftermaket. I also had problem where I drove places and car wouldn't start... for hours or days even there was a split in one of the positive starter relay wires I fixed that myself and haven't had that problem since

now my radiator fan isn't going and I haven't figured that out just yet.

I am an owner of a 2001 Pontiac Sunfire. Recently the DRL and the high beam headlights just went out. Our check engine light randomly turns on too. I took it to the dealer and they told me I need to replace the headlight wiring harness. They said there were so many shorts in the system that it would be cheaper to replace the whole thing. They gave me a quote of $900.00. This seems to be a problem across the board for the Sunfires. GM needs a recall on this.

I recently purchased a 2000 Sunfire GT with 138,000k and have experienced the few problems others have had in the first day I got the car. I noticed that the fan does not work in the settings 1-3 and looked at the wiring diagram to figure that it was the blower motor resistor. It was fairly simple to figure out because the 1-3 settings only go to the resistor where the 4th setting is a parallel circuit to the blower motor. So the blower motor will always have power in the 4th setting whether or not the resistor is working.

The other interesting problem that I haven't heard anyone else mention is the fact that the stupid reminder beeper for the 'keys in ignition' doesn't shut off when the key is in accessory position. So, in other words, I can't listen to the radio when the car is off without that annoying beeping in the background. The interesting thing is that I think that the dome light problem I'm having might be related to this as well. I'll have to see what I find out in the wiring, door switches, etc. Whenever the car is on, the dome light and reading lights in the rear-view mirror are on... until you start driving and they decide that it's a good time to turn off. When I stop the car they will sometimes come back on. I have been able to find the "sweet spot" where the reading lights won't stay on, but I had to take the dome light right out of the car for now. Lets just say it's not a fun thing to happen at night while driving. So I'm not sure what the problem with all that is, but I think that it might have a similar source. We will see soon enough.

I had the check engine light come on too. I went to the shop where I work and checked the codes. It was: "p0420" catalyst efficiency low bank 1. So that directs me to the first 02 sensor or the Catalytic converter.

I am taking it back to the dealership to have these few problems fixed, however, I think that I will end up doing the majority of the repairs because they probably won't want to fork out the money. I did not purchase the hugely overpriced warranty that they had offered because I feel that I would rather fix problems myself. At least that way I know that they are done right (I am a young female mechanic). So I now see that I am in for a lot of electrical troubleshooting with this car.

The trunk latch totally sucks too. I am going to have to either modify this one to fit tighter or replace it so that it stops rattling every time I go over a speed bump. The rear seat latch is also not doing anything to hold the seat in place. The part where the latch is supposed to connect with the 'hook' isn't even lined up. I really wonder about the previous owner sometimes... This one escapes me. I will simply adjust it or replace it.

I discovered that I have to bypass the immobilizer and disable the airbags to install my after market CD player. I just hope that my massive stereo (2000W, 2X 12" dual voice coil competition subs @ 1ohm mono) won't be setting off the airbags while I'm driving!!

So if anyone has already done some of this before, all comments are welcome before I go get dirty playing in the wires. Contact me @ murder_of_crows@hotmail.com only if you are serious about informing me or asking intelligent questions.

I very patiently await the long list of repairs I will be completing on this car. Despite all the weird things that have gone wrong, it isn't much different from any other manufacturer's defects in workmanship that I've seen. I like the little thing and can't wait to be rid of these inconveniences. *sigh* I suppose that I have my work cut out for me, I just hope that I won't have all these other problems that everyone else is having with the DRL and fuel pump etc. OK everyone, safe driving!

I own a 99 Sunfire GT, paid $2000 Cnd with 124k on the engine. I thought it was a sweet deal. I am currently 2nd lv mechanic and I'm finding too many, but all the same problems. My fan settings were fine, all 1-4 and then the next day nothing. Cept for I'm guessing 4th setting should always work. I know that the part is cheap, heard roughly 20$ or so. My mechanic said about 100. I would then like to take a stab at it myself, but on top of the other problems like check engine light... boy oh boy the rust under the hood right when I looked before buying worried me. It could be a sensor,, the code reading in guide when I checked said solenoid. Could it be air sensor? I'm afraid to drive over any puddles or drive in the rain. Too costly.

Hello all.

Maybe someone can help me. I have a 2000 Sunfire. On Saturday 5/12 I had my father put 2 cans of r-134a into my car. When I turn on the A/C cold air came out. I get into the car today and it's blowing hot air again. Any ideas???

I'm starting to have the same problems with the DRL's...

I am starting with GM, I firmly believe that should be the ones fixing these problems.

I had the Wiring Harness fixed when recalled and a little while after had problems with the blower motor. The fix with the blower motor involved putting foam insulation to get rid of the noises coming from the blower motor. I'm pretty sure they insulated around the wiring harness. So now I have a compounded problem with the wiring harness and the blower motor. My mechanic is going to be taking a look tonight to see how the foam insulation was installed.

I have a 2000 Sunfire, purchased new. My problem is the metal strip that goes across the top of the door where the window goes down - its all corroded - both sides. Has anyone else had that problem? The only other problem I've had that I've seen mentioned here is the blower switch which I've had replaced twice - so I guess I've been lucky!

I have a 2000 Sunfire SE 2.4 auto with about 180,000kms on it, I have a problem I haven't heard mentioned yet. Sometimes when the engine idles it makes a horrible grinding noise. I'm told the squealing sound comes from a pulley on the compressor that is engaged when the compressor is not. It wears out and well... screams. The sound is only there maybe 5 percent of the time and I just engage the A/C to cover it up until it decides to stop on its own. I'm told it's like a $900 repair, so I'll just live with it. Heres a list of the other things I "live with." My blower doesn't work on settings 1 and 2, my rear struts are gone again (but even when new/replaced they are still sub-par) my rear speakers used to cut in and out until I finally got frustrated one day, pulled over and just started yanking on wires in the trunk - now they work GREAT! (no joke), and the black stripping on the outside of the doors are rusted badly and cost hundreds to replace. I haven't had any headlight issues, I'm guessing my car's previous owner had to deal with that. After reading all these messages its clear GM doesn't really care about its customers. that being said, I love my rolling heap! I promise from now on I'll pull over and offer help to any Sunfire driver I see stranded at the side of the road and I hope you guys do the same. Sunfire Nation must unite!!!

I have a 2000 sunfire. I bought it brand new with only 22 miles on it. And I have to say other than replacing the blower motor, fan motor, and head lights{due to burning out} I have had no problems. I have had no problems with switch the radio or anything else the only thing that I need to fix as of right now is I have an air sensor going out. And I have abused this car it has almost 165000 miles on it. so maybe I'm one of the lucky ones and got a good one.

My wife's 2000 Pontiac Sunfire GT has the same problem with the DRL. It's been to the dealer several times, had the wiring harness repaired and now they're stating "circuit 593 is showing high resistance at terminal B for DRL circuit between instrument panel fuseblock and left front headlamp." It's clearly obvious by everyone's posts that there are electrical connection/harness issues with these vehicles that GM fails to fess up to. GM should get their recall in place for their own sanity to prevent any electrical fires that could affect peoples lives.

I have a 99 sunfire that the a/c just stopped working. I have verified that compressor works. The light on the button comes on, and I have verified that the relay works. When I ground out the relay for the compressor it comes on. What am I missing here that could potentially be the problem?

2003 Pontiac Sun fire. Just adding to the 1000+ problems discussed. Drivers side headlight and high beam went out. I replaced the bulbs and nothing. I tested to see if an electrical current coming from the wiring set. Sure do. Not sure what's going on. Now the daytime light on the passenger side is flickering. I can hear the DRL clicking in the fuse box. I have replaced the battery, spark plugs and the DRL. Taking it to the dealership and expecting, as many of you have found out, a new wiring harness.

I bought a 99 Sun-fire GT last August and have the following problems:

A/C doesn't work

DRL's don't work

Now have problem starting, strong smell of gas and a large "pop" sound from under the hood one time when I tried to start it and last, but not least the window on the driver's side will not go down, can't budge the handle one bit.

Help!!!
