1999 Pontiac Trans Sport 3.4 from North America

Summary:

It has been very good to us over the years

Faults:

Intake manifold gasket went at 72,000 Kms (right on schedule!)

Wheel bearings, brakes... regular stuff.

Both struts replace recently.

Silly little things like the radio display went out, no big deal.

General Comments:

Had I'd seen this website before purchasing the van, I probably would've stayed clear of it. But in retrospect, it's been very good over the years. The body is staring to rot out (rocker panels first) and the power windows work when they want to.

I pack it up and pull a small trailer every weekend to the cottage and still get 30 mpg on the highway, so I have no complaints with that.

I'll probably be driving it into the ground, but it feels like that'll be a long time from now.

Hope I didn't jinx it!!!!

1999 Pontiac Trans Sport EXT 3.4 Litre from North America

Summary:

I would only recommend this car to my worst enemies

Faults:

Where do I begin,

At 65000Kms I was told that the intake manifold gasket was leaking. Dealer told me he wished I had bought the extended warranty. I said I wanted to talk to the owner of the dealership!!! I got the thing fixed for $150 my cost. Intermittent problems throughout... we are 3000KMS away from home and the gasket gives out a second time. This time taking the engine and stranding us 3 days from home $4000.00 to get home I should have pushed it in the ocean!!! Still driving it patching as we go.

General Comments:

-Our Next vehicle will be a Toyota or Honda van.

-GM has lost our business forever!

-I really should sue, but I will spread the word instead

-I drive this wreck as a testament to GM poor quality and customer service

-I use wire ties to keep the inferior exterior parts attached to the vehicle.

-Rust through protection (make me laugh)

You are so right. I have a '96 model of the Trans Sport, and for sheer comfort and versatility, I have no complaints. As for the quality of this vehicle, that is another thing altogether. Exterior paint faded and clear coat chipped and peeled within the first year and a half. Dashboard peeled up and stood up in the center a good six inches from the surface. Left exterior turn signal fell off. It was not hit, it just... fell OFF! The week it went out of warranty it cost me 500 bucks. I have had the wiring harness replaced 3 times due to a design flaw that causes the engine to overheat the wires and make them brittle and short out. Two transmissions, (and this is slow city driving on flat land, mind you) one fire due to leaking tranny fluid, thousands and thousands on small constant repairs, A/C, heater core, computer, door locks, door HANDLES, gas pedal cable (twice), rear door knob/handle/thing, key fobs malfunctioning, you name it, this car has had it repaired. I cannot afford a new car, and I do not want a used one for fear of inheriting another heap like this one, so I will continue to patch up this literally worthless piece of junk for the near future. When it runs well, it rides and performs like a dream... but it rarely runs well.

1999 Pontiac Trans Sport from North America

Summary:

This vehicle is a LEMON!!!

Faults:

Fan/heat control switch position 1 & 2 stopped working at 70,000 kilometers.

Intake manifold gasket leak at 100,000 kilometers.

Transmission overhaul at 100,000 kilometers.

General Comments:

This vehicle was purchased off a lease with very low kilometers.

It has given me nothing, but problems since I purchased it.

Everything that has gone wrong with this vehicle has been very expensive to repair.

This was my first North American vehicle and my last.

1999 Pontiac Trans Sport 3.4 from North America

Summary:

Not a bad van if you have $$$ for repair and up keep

Faults:

Lower Intake gasket went at 140k and again at 180k and again at 242k (second engine from dexcool going into first engine.

Minor electrical problems (power locks)

General Comments:

This van is excellent for long road trips, however must be constantly in excellent mechanical condition,

Pleeeeeeease beware of the lower intake gasket because they are made out of very cheap plastic that cracks and melts around the seals, very$$$ around 1000$ each time. I have the 2 sets of broken gaskets in my carport to remind my never to buy GM again. They do not stand by their product while using inferior parts to maximize profit at the expense of their customers.
