1996 Porsche 911 C4 3.6L from North America

Summary:

Inspires like no other

Faults:

N/A.

General Comments:

Everything written about this modern classic sports car is true.

An elegant machine whose performance matches the driver's ability at every turn.

Current year models from any manufacturer somehow lack the spirit embodied in this car.

You must drive one to understand.

1996 Porsche 911 993 C4 3.6 from North America

Summary:

Beauty and the Beast in one car

Faults:

In 10 year of ownership:

1. Maintenance items: brake pads, oil, filters, dist caps and rotors, belts, lots of tires, hood and deck lid shocks, wiper blades, 1 battery

2. Repairs: light switch, AC servo motor, temperature sensor.

General Comments:

Last of the air cooled Porshes. Still beautiful None like it. People still razz me for driving a Porsche... even one that's 10 years old, because it looks new.

Takes maintenance to keep it running well, but you hear about 993 air cooled engines going 250K miles.

On the road, you feel like a race car driver... and then later the car is as gentle as a kitten going to the mall.

1996 Porsche 911 993 Carrera from North America

Summary:

Excellent

Faults:

Absolutely incredible. This is how a car should be made.

This car is the best car I have ever driven and I have driven them all! Reliability is excellent. The car starts with one key-turn.

Styling is timeless! You know you are in something special when you drive this car. The car feels like it has its own personality and responds differently to every weather condition. She runs cool in the summer and warm in the winter.

I wish we could go back to making "real" cars like the 993 Porsche. Once the car is at its optimum engine temperature, you feel it transform into the most incredible car ever made. Absolutely incredible.

I only drive mine from April to late November, although it is known to be great in snow.

The car is superb. If you can find one, buy it!

1996 Porsche 911 Carera 3.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

SUPERB, if able make your epitaph include I once had a 911

Faults:

Having spent some time looking for 'the right one' I have not had any additional expense other than servicing costs which compare equally too many newer mundane cars.

Find out as much as you can before you buy one and walk away if things don't seem right. To easy to let that singing flat six part you with your money.

General Comments:

This is my second 911 (993) having previously had the 964, having had several 944's before that. It's the one I always wanted and I have to say that every time I get in it, any stresses just vanish when you plant your foot down and hear that noise! I could have a 996 but prefer the air cooled variety plus I think the 993 is the nicer looking.

Whilst there are tuned to the max cars that will blow mine away if they don't blow their engine up first it is a very quick car. And with four seats, I can get both children in the back, practical. Whats the point having a great looking car when you have to use the boring one to turn up somewhere special!

No doubt there are better cars out there, but the overall package if you include emotion can't be beaten. Even going down to the supermarket with the wife is a blast.

Oh and check out the depreciation when your new Family Saloon/Hot Hatch have had a their first birthday. Mine is still commanding great money.

I am not rich! You don't have to be to have a 911. Just sensible and not mind people saying "I'd love one of them"

The 993 is a real classic and true you don't have to be rich to own a 911.
