1994 Porsche 968 Sport 3.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Excellent car that is not too costly to run - great performance and handling

Faults:

Water pump broke at 63,000 miles. Replaced by an independent specialist, not a main dealer.

General Comments:

This car drives superbly, the 968 Sport is a great combination of practicality and performance. It has a reasonable sized boot for the type of car, my daughter can sit in the car seat in the rear whilst the handling is excellent. It has great torque and just keeps on accelerating.

On rough roads you really feel the bumps, but this is worth putting up with for the handling.

Surprisingly economical - I have never had less than 20 mile per gallon and approach 30 on long journeys!

1991 Porsche 968 Coupe 3.0 petrol from Germany

Faults:

The engine was broken from the time I bought it. High oil consumption, little torque, little power, max power of 220 HP at 5600 revs, engine sometimes stalled when driving with gear inserted. As I had bought the car from a Porsche dealer and he did not want to fix it under warranty , I gave it back after 8 months.

General Comments:

The car is the best handling car I have ever driven, I am currently looking for another one. The fuel consumption is very low. Porsche dealers don't want to work on the car.

Conclusion: The ideal high performance car for daily use.

1993 Porsche 968 Coupe 3 liter gasoline from North America

Faults:

Manual transmission had over tightened bearings from factory and transmission bearings were replaced.

Clutch and flywheel replaced at 39,000 miles. Flywheel is a Dual Mass type and very expensive!

Rear hatch window is separating from window frame. It is a wide spread problem throughout the 944/968 Porsche line.

General Comments:

Wonderful handling car. Engine is extremely powerful for its size even though it is not turbocharged. Engine winds to red line easily. Probably one of the most beautiful Porsches.

This is a great car. However some of the interior plastic parts seem rather fragile and break easily for a luxury sports car. The car moves.

1993 Porsche 968 Club Sport 3.0 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

New rear/mid silencer @ 40,000 miles.

New clutch @ 32,000 miles.

Headlamp mechanism failed.

Rear discs cracked.

Front calipers required rebuild @ 35,000 miles.

General Comments:

Dealers are terrible and you get the feeling they just replace parts rather than find and repair small faults.

The 968 CS is, however, the best car I've ever driven. My car has the LSD and sports suspension which makes it even better than standard.

2) Water leak into wheelarch.

Dealers very unhelpfull.

Both local companies being owned by same company, both useless.

Specialist garage much better.

Faults:

Balance belt snapped, thermostat seized, sunroof drive-wheel broke.

General Comments:

Superb performance, especially above 3K revs, hard ride, brilliant handling, main dealers inefficient and expensive - use specialists instead.
