I was given my Proton GLS K reg from my sister. As she has run 3 cars into the ground, I didn't expect it to last me. I got a mechanic to look at the engine for me. New thermostat, new slave cylinder which sorted the clutch out as the gears were slipping, not a problem now. Also need a radiator which I will be going to a scrappy for. The car is running sweet as a nut now. I highly recommend this car.

We have had our torpedo as we know it for 5 years and its still going strong. Yes the sunroof leaks and nobody is going to nick it as it has no street cred, but its done two return journeys from Plymouth to Bristol every week for the last two years without a problem. It flew through its last MOT after salvaging a new bonnet from a scrappy (doner car had 240000 miles on the clock!!!) We have just clocked 111K miles and promised it to our 7 year old daughter as her first car much to her annoyance.

Hi; my Proton is a k reg and has done 50000 miles genuine; it has not given me many problems; it has had a new clutch, distributor, rubber boot and a few other small things, but like some other commentors the sun roof leaks; the windows don't work or jam. From Ian.

I have had mine for 5 years now. She is a bit rough looking now, but these cars are faultless. It's got to be the Mitsubishi engines in them. They put some modern cars to shame. The best £300 I have ever spent on an old car so far.

I have had a Proton for 17 yrs (110 000) I have not looked after it. Only failed its MOT this year for first time on windscreen wipers!!! I love the old banger. Sorry to say my daughter cannot say the same -- just bought herself a brand new Gen 2 and had nothing but trouble since the day it was bought and poor follow-up (if any) of the powers that be!They not interested. So disappointed and angry as this has spoiled what should have been a lovely time for her. A lot of money too.

My Proton GLS K has been a brilliant car. Sadly the front passenger door was vandalised recently, and if I cannot replace it, it will have to be scrapped. I am desperate to find a door with window a replacement if anyone can help. This car has stood outside in all weathers and runs like a dream still. Had only minor work done, sails through its MOT.
