1978 Reliant Scimitar GTE 2.8 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

I have partially built for myself a power horse

Faults:

The first problem was constant overheating due to a blown head gasket.

I also a problem with the gearbox seals which allowed all the oil to escape from the Gearbox.

Another major problem was a major electrical fault which nearly destroyed the wiring loom.

Other niggles have been a broken Accelerator Cable and other repairs due to general neglect.

General Comments:

I knew when I bought the car I would have to spend time and effort to maintain it. It clearly had been neglected.

It is still very quick and easy to handle.

I have renovated the interior with leather seats, new carpets and eradicated the 70's brown interior.

It has enough storage space for suitcases as well as four adults.

1978 Reliant Scimitar SE6a 3.0 Litre V6 petrol from Germany

Summary:

An affordable bespoke hand-built understated British sports car

Faults:

Got the car used from my Dad (thanks Dad) had been laid up for 4 years so a few things were bound to be wrong...

Gearbox and rear axle leak.

Dashboard lights didn't work.

Clutch slave cylinder fell off one day.

Rear axle is very noisy.

General Comments:

A rot free classic that will only appreciate.

Be prepared to spend lots of time maintaining one.

Take a toolkit wherever you go.

Will outrun and out handle many modern cars.

You will either love it or hate it.
