1991 Renault 25 TXE review from UK and Ireland
"A cheap extravagant hooker!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
One Worn Tyre.
Dash lights replaced.
Boot is always open if the computer were to be believed.
General comments?
I've formerly owned a Renault 5, 11, 18, and now the 25. I'm a bit of a sop when it comes to cars, and have grown as attached to this one as with the others.
Driving any Renault for me, with the exception of the 11, is a bit like putting on a comfortable pair of shoes. Comfort is excellent, as is driving position. Anything slightly out of reach and I almost find myself asking the car to pass it to me.
Performance is very good when familiar with Renault quirks. I've found them all a little light at the front end with a tendency to wheel spin. Even though the 25 is a large car, this is no exception.
The body beautiful still shines and is relatively flawless for the year.
The interior shows no wear and as usual with Renaults is like a tardis. That is to say they are much bigger inside than the size of the car would have you believe.
All the electrical gadgetry still works, electric windows, temperature gauge, stereo column control, electric seats, sunroof, windows and mirrors. The only exception being the voice warning system that insists on start up that the boot is open! It niggles me, but I get the feeling that when our roads part, I shall miss it dreadfully!
The car has basically spoilt me. Where else will I ever get such high specification for £350!!
Other than a worn tyre the MOT was fine.
It never uses water or oil, but is a bit of drinker with petrol. This is the area I live in and not really fair to blame the car. The size and engine aren't really suitable for my short, congested hops to and from work, but when on occasion I go further afield I'm very happy with my 30 miles to the gallon. For my day to day driving, just 20.
I've been looking for a smaller replacement with better fuel economy, but none of them quite measure up to the comfort, control and out right extravagance of my 25!
