1994 Renault Clio RT Auto 1.4 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Great little car with a big car feel

Faults:

Dashboard light.

General Comments:

4 speed automatic gearbox is great, electronically controlled with 2 modes - general and sport.

Love the car, the RT is the best value in the range, mine has loads of electrics and air conditioning.

I have it serviced every 8000 miles by Renault, this keeps it running in top condition.

Great, reliable car.

I'm the owner of the car you just read about, it is still as good as it was then, I am now up to 129,000 miles, no big bills yet, the car starts first time and the engine is still running well.

I have given up the Renault servcing and now do all of my own.

Well done Renault.

1994 Renault Clio 16v 1.8 twin cam petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A versatile cut above the usual GTi, race it or take your granny to the shops

Faults:

The rear shock absorbers began creaking at 37,000, replaced them with Kayaba units that give a firmer ride.

General Comments:

Must have the cam belts changed every 36,000 without fail - expensive at a dealer, difficult if you do it yourself.

Oil change (semi-synthetic) and filter every 6000 and you've got yourself a reliable hot hatch a cut above the rest.

Fast and comfortable, understated looks and quite rare on the road - just how I like it.

1994 Renault Clio 16v 1.8 16v petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Best small hatch around

Faults:

Nothing yet.

General Comments:

I haven't had the car for long but the great looks get you noticed. And for it being standard, it is one of the fastest hot hatches around.

1994 Renault Clio 16v 1.8 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Wolf in sheep's clothing

Faults:

Cambelt snapped, costly repair but lucky for me Dad's a mechanic so I got the head skimmed, polished-ported, gas-flowed and bored out, all for a nice price!

General Comments:

Apart from the cambelt it's been great.

1994 Renault Clio Be Bop 1.2 8V petrol from Greece

Summary:

When the going gets tough, the Clio gets going

Faults:

Once a pipe of the radiator was destroyed. Nothing more than that...

General Comments:

It is unbelievable how a small and slow car like this is still running like a new one after a very rough life. The best thing with Clio is compatibility, You can buy the simplest version and make it the best.

1994 Renault Clio 16v 1.8 injection 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Hot-hatch heaven!

Faults:

Generally trouble free.

The radiator sprung a leak on a particularly hot day in heavy traffic. It had to be re-sealed.

Front suspension springs were replaced due to general wear and degradation.

General Comments:

If you plan to own or own one of these, it is important the services are kept up. Mainly the car needs an oil/filter change every 6,000 miles without fail. If you do this, the car will run forever!

It's a lovely looking car, still stylish, hottest of the hot-hatches, handles like it's glued to the road.

1994 Renault Clio RN 1.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Had trouble with the brakes from the word go. They make a grinding noise until they have warmed up. Pads don't wear well in urban driving conditions. I am replacing them every 6 months. Apart from that the car is fine.

General Comments:

It is extremely economical in urban driving conditions. I am getting 38-40 mpg driving in London during the rush hour.

1994 Renault Clio RT 1.4 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Needed exhaust back box at 40k miles.

General Comments:

Excellent small car, little damage caused when a Ford Sierra went into the back of it at 30mph writing the Sierra off.

It's comfortable on the motorway and is capable of high speeds and good acceleration.

I've had Fiestas and Fiats and they don't have any class and are lacking on performance. This is the best small car on the market.
