General Comments:

I really liked the car, but the reliability and build quality became such an issue that I sold it.

Renault, you had designed a comfortable roomy car very well, but built it like a load of rubbish, costing the end owner lots of money to put your manufacturing mistakes wrong. You need to do more reliability tests on your vehicles, and until you do I shall not be buying or recommending a Renault to anyone.

You can build a reputation for good looking cars in days, but a reputation for well built reliable cars takes years, and you clearly have a long hill to climb to be as good as other makes in that department.

PS my car was not a company car, but privately owned, and driven very carefully by the person who was buying it.

2002 Renault Laguna Privilege 2.4 V6 from Australia and New Zealand

Summary:

Great french luxury

General Comments:

Hey guys, I am a fanatic of french cars; I just love them.

I've been looking around for a french car; I went to look for a Citroen Xantia (1999), which was OK; had all the luxuries you think of, but I'd had one before, and the hydraulics are, ummmmmm scary. Anyway, I decided to get this Renault as it looks great, the interior is just OK, nothing extra, but it's good as you have everything quite handy; it's well balanced and accurately to hand reach.

Engine-wise I've been hearing some noise around. I guess they are the engine or transmission mounting. It's usually when you give it a quick throttle; the engine makes a kicking noise as if its place has been changed from the initial position, but don't know... I haven't had that checked yet.

Overall I would say this car got lots of electrics around the seats and throttle sensors, and everywhere, which is good and bad. I like them, but they seem costly to maintain. Hopefully it will last me quite long, as I love this car and it's running good, even on petrol.

I've seen most of the reviews of this Laguna; I was scared, but I decided to give it a go and see what happens; so far am really happy... go Laguna!!!

How is the car running currently? Am thinking of purchasing one that has done 52, 000kms...but am hesitant due to its questioned reliability.

Thanks a lot, Peter.

2002 Renault Laguna 2.0 from Singapore

Summary:

Expect better quality from a continental car

Faults:

I have had the Renault Laguna for about 4.5 years, but faced with numerous problems; e.g. just one year after buying the car - the battery went flat and needed to be replaced. Other than the battery; also its installation.

One week later the front windscreen wiper nozzle would not function.

One month later one of the passenger doors was not able to be locked.

Air-con not adapted to the local climate and thus was unable to provide acceptable cooling, and the evaporator gave up just before 3.5 years.

Am now faced with an UN-repairable gearbox - I have been recommended to change the whole box.

General Comments:

It is a very stable and safe car for driving; however with the numerous problems - practically almost every month it has been in the workshop.
