2008 Renault Megane Coupe Cabriolet from UK and Ireland

Summary:

This is the 4th Renault car I have purchased, and it will be the last

Faults:

I got into the car and shut the door. The glass roof imploded and I had glass trickling down my face and all over the inside of the car. There was no glass on the driveway. The car was stationary on the driveway. The car had not been damaged by any flying object, and there were no marks on the bodywork or the back and front windscreens. Currently dealing with Renault Customer Services who claim they have no knowledge of such problems, although I have found several on the Internet already.

General Comments:

Renault need to own up to the issues with the glass roofs and resolve them.

Would you buy another car from this manufacturer? No

This would be par for the course from Renault customer services (should read " Renault Disaster Services", only there for damage limitation, theirs!) for all faults which are infinite with this make of car.

I have a Megane Sports Hatch, and this morning whilst driving to work, the roof exploded. There were no bridges, no trees and no other cars near by...

The roof was closed at the time.

The only saving grace was that the roof blind was shut, so I didn't get showered with glass!

The car is under warranty, but the roof is not covered - funny that!

Now could be faced with either a bill for around £250, or if the frame is bent or something, up to £900!

I have had 5 Renaults, and the lack of support on this matter is horrendous!

You will probably find that these glass panels are under stress, and there is usually a reinforcing plate fitted at some point. Because of the surface tension, they can sometimes just break, and they go from the point at which the glass is at its weakest. If there is any glass left, you will see where it propagated from the glass particles that are smaller, nearest to the epicentre.
