I very much enjoy my Scenic, but; I have a similar problem with the brakes binding overnight and noisy. It's disapointing that this problem hasn't been corrected yet.

I used to own a 2001 scenic which also had a sticky handbrake. I now own a 2004 scenic I've done 10k and so far the handbrake problem has not been repeated. The only major problem I had with the 2001 scenic was a coil failure, a common fault with the scenic I believe. The new scenic has been trouble free so far.

I agree with the comments about the brakes sticking especially after a damp night or after washing the car.

It's not a major problem and as a mechanic, I ground a little from the edges of the metal backing for the rear brake pads and this helped a little although it did not completely cure the problem.

Overall, the car has been quite good, I've covered 24,000 miles. I hope I haven't spoken too soon.

Renault customer care have finally agreed to change my back brake pads free of charge in an effort to see if it would solve my problem of a sticky handbreak. After 2 years the problem has finally gone away. I have also had to have all 4 coils changed as they had burned out.

Having had the sticky brake problem resolved I now have another reoccurring problem! For some reason my central locking fails to work when parked outside my house, this has only started happening since Christmas and I have had the car 3 years. Also when I switch off the ignition the driver window which is electric suddenly comes down. It may take 3 or 4 attempts to get it to stay up!! any one else had this problem?

Our renault grande scenic makes a terrible groaning noise when braking - but only when I'm reverse parking. V. embarrassing sometimes as it's so loud, but garage/dealer doesn't seem to care calling it 'intermittent' and not a problem. I don't agree.

Like the recent blog, I have a new Grand Scenic and when the car is put into reverse the car squeals and groans really loud. I have a sympathetic dealer and he has changed the rear calipers and brake pads, but the noise is still coming - apparently there is a solution that also needs to be put into the calipers, which will, I am told resolve the problem completely. As they were out of stock on this at the time, it is booked in for Monday (now Thursday) to do - this I hope will resolve the squealing - otherwise a terrific car and one I would recommend - subject to squealing being resolved!

All credit to my Renault dealer though - they are trying to ensure I am dealt with as professionally as possible - an experience I have continually had with them since purchasing my first Renault from them.

We also have a Grand Scenic that has been back to the dealers four times and they say there is nothing wrong with it. The screeching noise when reversing is intermittent, but very noisy when it happens.

I have the same screeching sound when reversing at slow speeds. Have had a lot of probs including continuous low battery despite turning off interior lights and travelling for long periods of time, so alternator would charge battery. Renault checked and say cannot find cause. Wanted a reliable MPV and had more stress than the six week holidays!

The problem is known by good Renault dealers about brake noises on the Scenic type 1 and 2.

I am a Renault tech, and had several cases. For the phase 1 you have brake plates that reduce noise and also help your handbrake not sticking. For the scenic 2 you require new caliper yokes that make the loud noises on reverse disappear.

Loss of power was the worst habit with my Scenic. It had its brake pads renewed three times (shocking). Wouldn't recommend it really.
