2005 Saturn ION Ion 1 from North America - Comments

"I want an Asian car, no more Saturn for me!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The car had fuel line problems, and wouldn't start, or it would start and then die. (3 fuel related problems) The service shop first said it was due to loose wires. When I got my car back, it broke down during that week. They then said that the connections were loose deeper in the car, the car lasted about a month and a half, and then broke down. They are trying to figure out what the problem is.

Parking brake light would stay on when the brake was released.

Once in a while, the trunk won't shut, you have to give it a few tries.

General comments?

I got the base model Saturn Ion 1, with anti-lock braking system, traction control, Air conditioning, upgraded sound system, and floor mats. For the price, $11,000 (after incentives), it wasn't that bad, it was a pretty good darn deal!

The seats are quite comfortable, and they seem to be holding up quite fine.

I like the gages being in the middle of the dashboard, there isn't a steering wheel or arm in the way. I got used to it the first day I drove it.

The shifting usually is smooth, but sometimes it is really hard to put it into first when stopped.

The brakes are really responsive, the steering is responsive as well.

The base tires are too small! they're 14 inches!!

There's a lot of room, enough for 5 people to sit comfortably in.

The road noise is alright, it's not too loud, but it's not really quite.

It handles the highway really well, keeps up with the cars, I am actually able to pass a lot of cars.

Since the doors are dent resistant and made of some sort of plastic, they aren't very sound proof. People can hear your music easily, even if the volume is low.

I was fine with the car until it started to break down on me. The same problem 3 times in a row! The car seemed like a great deal, good safety ratings, decent gas mileage, good price. It's a brand new car, it shouldn't be breaking down in the first month! The dealership was confused as to why it was having this problem, 3 times! One more time, and I'm pushing the lemon law! I'm already looking for other cars because I really do think I got a lemon, I'm just not happy with Saturn. The people are great, but the problems I've had with my car are just horrible. I've owned it for 3 months, each month with the same problem. That just doesn't seem right, now does it.

For the first week I had my Saturn Ion 2 the battery died, then the Saturn roadside ass. wrecker who picked it up scratched the shifter. After threatening to trade it in within 30 days saturn decided to fix it. Now my back door won't open and I found a piece of plastic just sitting in my engine. I will be returning to Saturn again because of the door frame is now comming off. Thanks Saturn.

Strange indeed. I've owned my 2006 Ion2 for over a month now{650 miles} and have had no problems with it whatsoever.

My boyfriend bought a 2005 Saturn Ion 1 and has had many problems with it. It shifts rough and there is a slipping sound coming from the transmission and it's hard to get into reverse. There's been a strange metallic banging noise from the front end since he bought it. The techs said it was nothing and they couldn't find the problem. He was made to think that he was imagining the problem. Yesterday they finally diagnosed the problem and replaced the end link boots and bushings, both front struts, and the steering column. We've taken his car to two dealerships to get it worked on many times since it was purchased and only now have they found the problem.

I have a 2005 Saturn Ion, about two months ago I was at a traffic signal and it stalled. It started up after two tries. Then two weeks after that I just left the oil change place and the check engine light came on, well I had an appointment so I went there about 30 miles, light still on. Called the Saturn dealership and they said bring it in. The dealership was another 30 miles, while driving to the dealership light went out?

The found a dirty ecm valve (they cleaned it) and said that if it happened again I would need a new one. Well last week I was stopped in traffic and yep you guessed it the car stalled out going down a hill, I had to use the emergency brakes to stop. Luckily after the third try it started. I wasn't a happy camper.

Yesterday I took it to the dealership they couldn't find anything wrong with it, they even called the Saturn tech center.

I had a 1995 Saturn SL2 for 10 years and it didn't give me one problem. It had 133,000 miles when I traded it for this. And now this Ion isn't even two years old only 17,000 miles and I am having problems.

The dealership said if it happens again I will have to leave it there---NOT.I will be trading it in!

I have a 2005 ION Quad and loved it. Then one year later I began having problems with the ignition. I would turn the car off but the key would not disengage completely and I could not get the key out and the doors would not unlock. I took it to the dealership and they tinkered with it and I drove it home. Not long after that it happened again.

This went on over a period of 1 year taking it back to the dealership. They even have me a new key and said it was the problem even after I told them it was doing the same thing with my husband's key. Of course that didn't fix it. After six tries they finally seem to have found the problem.. something with the shifter. I was so glad because as I said I really liked the car.

Well, I spoke too soon... about two weeks after the ignition issue was solved, the track on my sunroof broke. I took it in and they told me it would be $600 to fix now that the warranty has expired!! They told me it was because the track assembly has to be replaced and it has the motor. There is nothing wrong with the motor that is on it. They can replace just the motor if it goes out, but if the PLASTIC track breaks they have to replace the whole thing including the motor. My husband has rigged something to keep the sunroof closed so I can't use it now.

Now it's about a month later and my power steering went out. I called the service department and the guy asked me questions about the problem and said it sounds like the electric power steering motor has gone out. That will cost $900. I am so disgusted but I am going to take it in on Monday and they are going to look at it and then I plan to start getting my info together to deal with the dealership owner and Saturn Corporate. I will not own another Saturn as long as I live!!!
