1993 Subaru Impreza from North America

Summary:

Perfect college/ young single beater

Faults:

New radiator hoses.

New water pump.

New clutch.

New tires.

Previous owner was a mechanic, so yearly maintenance, plugs, fluids, etc.

Basically this car is light in the frame and needs to be protected from rust through, but mechanically it's amazing.

General Comments:

Typical light gauge frame, so road noise and vibration loud.

Dead reliable car, fun pickup and no major repairs needed. I've owned Honda's and Toyota's before this car, and while they were all solid runners, they needed much more work on suspension (Honda) and drive train/cooling system (Toyota).

I am so spoiled by this car, that if anything I tend to do too little preventative maintenance, since it runs like a champ. The only real issue I have ever had to fight with is leaking oil from older seals, but no head gasket issues.

The car is a 4 door, and has a small backseat, but for a single guy or a couple, this car is perfect.

1993 Subaru Impreza Wagon LS 1.8L from North America

Summary:

Wonderful, reliable, practical

Faults:

At approximately 90,000 miles my engine developed a ticking noise. I didn't have it looked at until 95000 miles. It cost $500 to have the dealer replace some cam rockers (or something like that). The engine has been rock solid since then. I have 140K on it now.

Recently I put on new rotors/pads.

I had routinely done transmission fluid flushes from 20000 miles to 100000 miles.

Nothing else has broken. It just runs well.

General Comments:

This car is slow, but once it gets up to speed it handles well.

It is relatively comfortable, and I did a lot of driving between Wisconsin and Missouri for several years.

With the back seat folded down, I can put a lot of supplies in the car, and it has been very useful for moving furniture, etc.

The engine is seriously underpowered, so much so that at a red light, you cannot keep the A/C compressor running as it bogs down the engine too much.

1993 Subaru Impreza L from North America

Summary:

The best $600 car investment!! Amazing!!

Faults:

Fan blower stopped working - I live with it, warmth comes when I get on the highway.

Gas tank switch broke - $75.

Rust - some painting made it look better $10.

Dash doesn't light up.

Electrical problem with back lights (not brakes), but I can switch them on manually.

The previous owner put some money on it though.

General Comments:

This is the most reliable car I have ever had!

I bought this car as it was already old and rusted, so I wasn't expecting much from it.

What a surprise! I only had to put $75 on it, plus maintenance and it still works great! That's amazing for an old car, as they usually need a lot of repairs and don't last that long! (My Nissan Sentra 1992 "died" after 11 years and a lot of repairs and the engine of my Mazda 323 1993 failed after 13 years) 16 years and no "big" issue is a record!

Last time I went to the garage, the mechanic told me the engine was still doing very well.

If you are looking for a used car, I deeply recommend an Impreza! It's the most reliable!

And on top of all, it's fun to drive!

Summary:

Amazing, not like any other I've driven

Faults:

The dashboard lights have gone I don't know if it is a fuse or not but every other light comes on. Muffler had a hole in it so it sounds pretty loud and the front alignment has gone bad in it and so has the alt.
