2001 Subaru Outback 3.0 VDC review from North America
"Fast and efficient, all-weather car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Passenger side mirror cracked when heating up one morning in Juneau, AK - I am living with it.
Wind noise from driver's side mirror - mechanic fixed with a new mirror gusset.
Steering rack went out at 60,000 miles. Suspect moisture and salts from Juneau, AK. This cost about $800 to replace.
Now I have vibrating noises coming from the undercarriage at about 1100 rpm - I suspect the exhaust system needs some work.
General comments?
This is one of the fastest cars I have owned - got her up to 130 MPH the other day with good tires, and I think there was more speed to be had, but I chickened out, not wanting to get a ticket.
I have noted gas mileage as high as 30 mpg on highway trips, but average about 21 mpg in mixed driving.
This is the best ice, mud, and snow car I have ever owned.
This is a solid car that has generally served me well, and in comfort.
