1993 Toyota 4x4 VX 4.2 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

The most reliable vehicle, I even cancelled my AA about six years ago, it will not break down

Faults:

Starter motor started to slow down at 160,000 miles, reconditioned it.

Wiper mechanism started to get very loose. Needed replacing at 200,000 miles.

ABS has always been a little intermittent, ignition off and on fixes it.

General Comments:

Not bad speed off the lights for a vehicle that weighs 2.5 tonnes.

Great for over taking with the Auto box.

Very solid on the road for a 4x4, great for cornering! Far more stable than the brand new Land Rover Discovery, which is about the same weight and just wallows around the place when cornering with its independent suspension.

Starts instantly always! Half a turn thanks to 24 volt starting.

The engine uses no oil between services, which is good for an engine with 310,000 miles on the clock. At the last test, the tester told me the emissions were cleaner than the new Pajero.

I have owned this car for 9 years and it's by far the most reliable vehicle I have owned. All it needs is oil, filters and brake pads, so I have found it to be cheap to run.

1993 Toyota 4x4 SSR-X 2.4TD from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Best 4x4 on the market

Faults:

One of the batteries had to be replaced.

Rear seat release came away in my hand.

General Comments:

One of the quickest 4x4's I've had the pleasure to drive.

She's a bit juicy, but the fact that you don't have to keep paying out on it to be fixed totally out weights that. Very reliable.

Went to Scotland in her, camping, so she was fully loaded with gear. Covered about 2000 miles in a week and a half. She didn't flinch.

The one small problem we had in Scotland was that she started to warm up on the really steep hills, but put the interior fans on blowing how air and she keep under cotrol.

1993 Toyota 4x4 DLX 3.0L from North America

Summary:

My 1993 Toyota will probably run forever

Faults:

The starter contacts went out at 158,000 miles.

Needed Brake Job at 164,000.

General Comments:

This Truck is an awesome 4 wheel drive and can go almost anywhere.

Most reliable vehicle I have ever owned.

Thought about selling it, but it is just too nice and I am afraid I will not find a nicer more reliable truck than the one I already have.

1993 Toyota 4x4 SB 22REFI from North America

Summary:

Money well spent on a small truck

Faults:

I replaced front and rear shocks, bushings, 2 cam-bolts, and control arms, mostly due to rust damage because the truck had never been under coated.

As a precaution, I replaced the clutch, timing chain, distributor cap, wires and plugs.

I also had to replace the manifold seal/gasket. I use a KN air filter, synthetic oil, and I regularly grease the chassis/drive-train and monitor the differential fluid.

Everything else is original and I do not forsee any problems.

General Comments:

I expect to keep this truck for a long, long time. The 4cyl. is extremely reliable and does fine in traffic and is great off road in my opinion. The truck is tall yet agile on the street, in snow storms, and will practically climb trees in the woods. I reccommend BFG all terrain tires.

The (black) factory paint job is still surprisingly shiny. It is a handsome, no frills small truck. I use it daily.

My only complaint is that it is uncomfortable on long trips. And I recommend tinting the rear window because the small cab gets hot in the summer.

Kudos on the truck sounds like a keeper. Continue the maintenance and you'll never be disappointed!

1993 Toyota 4x4 DX 3.0 V6 from North America

Summary:

Dependable and tough

Faults:

No component failure.

I have only had to replace common wear items (brakes, clutch, tires).

Dealer service not applicable because I work on my own vehicle.

General Comments:

The truck handles rough driving well.

I off road with it considerably and it can take a beating.

It has nice road manners and a comfortable ride at highway speeds.

TOYOTA DEPENDABILITY The early '90's 4cylinder 4x4's are excellent as far as being dependable. The ride is stiff, especially with M&S tires. Price of parts not good. Little rust on rear bumper. I have not babied this truck. Truck runs and almost looks brand new (with100k) I'm gonna get 7 more years. sorry all you Ford owners.
