1985 Toyota Camry LE 2.0L EFI 4-Cylinder from North America

Summary:

A Great, Inexpensive, 1st generation Value

Faults:

The radio broke because my parents were in a car crash (a minor).

General Comments:

The Camry is a very reliable car.

The acceleration is great. You don't even have to step on the gas pedal that much.

The interior is great. The soft seat makes you feel at home when your all scared and stuff. It gives you a nice warm feeling.

I have also drove my Camry to new York from California, and it didn't break down or nothing, and I haven't checked my Camry for 3 Months.

1985 Toyota Camry LE 2.0 Inline 4 EFI from North America

Summary:

A simple, easy to work on, cheap car

Faults:

Original fuel pump slowly quit working finally gave out when the car was 18 years old with 261,000 miles. I think it lasted a long time. Other than that no problems since I have owned it.

General Comments:

Performance is not too great. It has really good top end power 60-90 but 0-40 isn't very exciting. Ride quality is excellent. This is a very reliable car.

1985 Toyota Camry LE 2.0L EFI 4 cylinder. from North America

Summary:

Amazingly tough and dependable transportation - even Toyota doesn't build them like this anymore

Faults:

Lower control arms needed replacing at 206,000 miles.

Timing belt slipped at 210,000 but, since this is a non-interference engine, it just needed replacing and didn't cause any damage which was great.

Steering box has started to feel a little 'spongy'

All are relatively minor general wear-and-tear items consistent with the mileage on the car I think.

General Comments:

My goodness, this car has been amazingly reliable and great transportation.

It was my wife's first car when she was in college and, since we bought her a new car I have driven it for another 15-20,000 miles.

The car is obviously extremely well built and, although there are no luxurious frills it is very comfortable even on long drives.

It has been well looked after and the oil has been changed every 5,000 miles.

In my opinion, if you look after these cars, they will offer you fantastic service.

I have nothing bad to say about it at all as it has taken me from one side of the country to the other in 3 days without complaint.

If you can find one that has service history (with receipts!) and is in good condition then I think you cannot go far wrong.

I have owned a 1985 Camry for the past 14 years. I have 329,000 miles on it and just routine things go wrong. I purchased the repair manual from Toyota on it when I bought the car and do most of the work myself. Very easy car to work on. Have a lot of parts that I collected over the years from wrecking yards which is a money saver. I change oil every 5,000 miles and use Castrol 20/50 in it. Very reliable car and comfortable to drive and great on gas.

1985 Toyota Camry 2.0L from North America

Faults:

I bought my car off a friend for 200 bucks. It had an almost nonexistent exhaust, blown struts and springs, and a lot of rust. I replaced both control arms and the radiator.

General Comments:

I beat the car like it was stolen. I drove to a ski resort every day on summer tires in every weather condition imaginable. I held it at the rev limiter for a good minute in the first three gears.

The only engine maintenance I did was change the oil every 3k miles. For 200 dollars this was the best and most fun car to drive. It finally found its resting place in a VT junkyard because of rust taking completely over. The engine, trannie, and clutch never let go. You can't kill a Japanese vehicle. Especially the 'yoter.

1985 Toyota Camry LE 2.0 gasoline from North America

Summary:

Yawn... like all Camrys

Faults:

New tires twice in the front, once in the back.

New struts in the front... very expensive... was ripped off by the dealer.

New brakes all around. Twice in the front.

Needs new exhaust system.

Leaks oil.

Power windows went out on the driver's side rear and front passenger.

Reverse lights do not work.

Axle had to be replaced.

Defroster doesn't work.

Radio and tape player broke.

General Comments:

Well it gets me there relatively quick.

Everything that could go wrong seems to have gone wrong with this thing.

It still runs, quite well if the exhaust was fixed... next month... I'll do that.

Better if I had a stick... the automatic shifts at the wrong time all the time.

It's really great car. It changes your driving manner.Problems? Well with the exhaust system, leaking oil and that's all I suppose.

A great car! My son, a UIUC student, drives it daily...300,000 miles. Purrs like a kitten. Paint is starting to show its age.
