If it is on reliability alone, this car is sure to become a sought after classic.

I have bought a Carina II 2.0 diesel in 1988 (model '88-92), and I'm still driving this car... no comment needed I think!!!

She is always parked outside, rust is no problem, and the rubbers are very high quality!!

This car is by far the best!!!

1988 Toyota Carina Gli 2.0 from Romania

Summary:

A high performance family car

Faults:

Shocks don't hold very long.

Gearbox went dead at 235000 Km

Faulty brakes.

General Comments:

The car is very quick, lacks mid-range torque, but is very fast. After adding a tuning kit to the engine, it now boosts 268Hp. The wheels skid even in 3rd gear!!!Great Stability. Lots of so called sport cars, accelerate like vans when compared to the carina. Very low fuel consumption. All in all a fantastic car. Best I ever had, I think I'll keep it forever.

1988 Toyota Carina II GL 1.6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

An excellent reliable saloon, but no sports car

Faults:

Slight misfire occasionally, solved by replacing the oil and plugs.

General Comments:

Overall excellent reliability for its age and especially its mileage.

Very roomy inside, particularly the back seats. Although very dark.

Considering the mark it was aimed at it is a fairly quick car, though the handling is spongy.

Not a bad motorway cruiser.
