1996 Toyota Paseo 1.5 I4 from North America

Summary:

Fun car, although it is slow

Faults:

The antenna was broken and needed replaced.

Seat was slightly ripped and worn when purchased.

Passenger side front speaker does not work.

The car eats oil almost faster than gas.

Very minor problems though.

General Comments:

I have only had the car for a little over a month and it is a great car for a first car. I love to drive it. the engine is small and struggled to make 95 mph, but the handling makes up for lack of speed. I like having a car that is this rare, plus mine is teal and I have not seen any others that color. the gas mileage is great and rarely have to visit the pump. the back seat is very small, but I never have to sit back there so what do I care?

I have decided that since paseos are so uncommon, and jeep and motorcycles have a wave wen they pass each other on the road, there should be a paseo wave. so if you see a fellow paseo owner wave at them next time.

1996 Toyota Paseo 1.5 16v I-4 from North America

Summary:

Great tiny reliable car

Faults:

Has a small crack in the windshield.

OEM Cassette Player didn't work upon purchase.

General Comments:

The car has been a great little car. Its tiny and maneuverable. I love the sunroof. Its almost a little too small though for a big guy like me (6 foot, 240lbs), and the back seat is difficult for any largish person to sit in. The car has a small engine, but is geared for it. Gives me great gas mileage (30-35mpg in city).

1996 Toyota Paseo from North America

Summary:

Efficient, reliable, sporty, unique auto

Faults:

Wear in drivers seat.

Extensive rust on windshield wiper arms.

Trunk hinge latch broke off.

Oil pan rust (car parked outdoors)

Catalytic converter cover fell off.

Crack in turn signal lamp letting water in (not due to accident damage)

General Comments:

I feel unique in my Paseo. There are very few around in the midwest area. This was a car purchased in the south for the first part of it's life. Since moving to the midwest that is where most of the rust problems started. I have never been stranded in this car or let down by it. Others are surprised how zippy she is!

1996 Toyota Paseo ST 1.5 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Fantastic car. Would buy another one in a minute!

Faults:

Absolutely nothing so far.

Serviced car twice (every 6000 miles) and replaced brake pads on front.

General Comments:

This car is a sporty looking little coupe and has the power to match the looks.

Handling could be a little bit better, maybe stiffen the rear suspension and lower the front a little bit, as the vehicle has a slight tendency to over - steer in the wet.

I couldn't agree more with this review!! Bigger and wider wheels stops the steering going on wet and greasy surfaces, but drags it back a bit on the dry!!

1996 Toyota Paseo 1.6 from North America

Summary:

Nearly 100% maintainence free for over 300,000 miles

Faults:

The left seat back has a three inch hole in the outer edge.

The car has always had a 'misfire' that only occurs once a week or so. It is like is shuts down the starts again immediately. Almost like a chug.

Wow! man (or lady) you drive a lot. I thought I had a ton of miles on my 1992 Paseo. Currently have 311,400 as of 9/26/04 and have owned my vehicle for almost 13 years. I have never broken down in my car nor had to have it towed. It's a super solid, extremely reliable car. By the way, that problem you noted about the car idle which sounds like the engine is about to shut down and restarts back up... I have that problem, but I fixed it by cleaning the fuel system with some Techron additive. My belief why the problem happens has to do with dirty fuel injectors. After putting in the additive seems to have eliminated the problem. Try it yourself to see what happends...
