Summary:

Fantastic car. Would buy another one in a minute!

Faults:

Absolutely nothing so far.

Serviced car twice (every 6000 miles) and replaced brake pads on front.

General Comments:

This car is a sporty looking little coupe and has the power to match the looks.

Handling could be a little bit better, maybe stiffen the rear suspension and lower the front a little bit, as the vehicle has a slight tendency to over - steer in the wet.

I couldn't agree more with this review!! Bigger and wider wheels stops the steering going on wet and greasy surfaces, but drags it back a bit on the dry!!

Wow! man (or lady) you drive a lot. I thought I had a ton of miles on my 1992 Paseo. Currently have 311,400 as of 9/26/04 and have owned my vehicle for almost 13 years. I have never broken down in my car nor had to have it towed. It's a super solid, extremely reliable car. By the way, that problem you noted about the car idle which sounds like the engine is about to shut down and restarts back up... I have that problem, but I fixed it by cleaning the fuel system with some Techron additive. My belief why the problem happens has to do with dirty fuel injectors. After putting in the additive seems to have eliminated the problem. Try it yourself to see what happends...

1996 Toyota Paseo 1.8 from North America

Year of manufacture1996
First year of ownership2003
Engine and transmission 1.8 Automatic
Distance when acquired15000 miles
Most recent distance25000 miles
Previous carNissan Sentra

Summary:

A terrific little car

Faults:

When I first got my car, it had a rear seal leak, but I was able to get that fixed with the warranty I purchased. My machanic said it can happen after 15,000 miles

General Comments:

It has great handling, and it is a fun little car.

It gets great gas mileage. I can get about 30-35 miles per gallon.

The back seat crowded and my brothers hit their head, but they like to scrunch down and look at the stars.

I got this car when my Nissan took a dump. When I first saw it, it looked very cute and sporty. Then when I got to drive it home, I had all the controls within reach, it was very silent and I was close to the ground.

It takes corners really well and it isn't top heavy.

I think that it is a great car, and I would recommend it as a first car.

I love my little Paseo.

Summary:

Great car, not a family car thou

Faults:

I have never had any problems with this car. The only item I have a problem with is the center cap on the rear wheel. It makes a squeaking noise.

General Comments:

This car has been great. The only service I have done is the basic service, oil changes and brakes at 90,000. This car gets great gas mileage about 27 miles to the gallon. It get me from point A to point B. It is very reliable. Thou, the car is a dog when it comes to speed it is a great car. I firmly believe in routine service the car will last as long as you want it to. I firmly believe Kendall Motor Oil has a lot to do with the engine running great! Oil is the life of the car. The back seats are extremely uncomfortable.

Summary:

Small, slow, but reliable

Faults:

I have had no problems with the car. Being 17 years of age, I have driven this car to the extreme and it has met all obstacles and overcome them.

General Comments:

This car is fairly slow and the back seat is very cramped with little head and leg room. I spent a grand improving the sound system to competition level, turning my car into a speaker on wheels.

It also gets great gas mileage, averages about 28 mpg. The engine tops out at about 90 mph.

My paseo tops out a lot faster than 90 try 115 or faster stock.

22nd Aug 2002, 20:05

I drive a uk version and mine tops out at 120 mph on the flat and that's standard I think you guys have had raw deal with the rstrictors.

17th Dec 2002, 14:47

My Paseo is very quick, and has been raced out with many cars. My car has handled better than my b/f Honda Accord and it's a 2002, it has way better pick up!

22nd Apr 2003, 21:45

My car is a 94 and it tops out at much faster than 90.

14th Aug 2009, 12:51

I think your competition sound system may be weighing you down if you can only achieve 90...hahaha.

I agree with you. In Asia it is called Toyota Cynos 1.8L.

6th Jul 2001, 11:10

I bought a 1996 Toyota Paseo with 47k on it and the damn thing blew its engine. They say I blew three out of four rod bearings. I always changed my oil and I loved my car.

My biggest problem now is I can't find a replacement motor. I know they kept making them until 2000 in Japan, but I don't know if it's legal to get what they call Japan spec and if it wasn't legal, would it still pass emmisions?

Hey there paseo drivers. I bought mine (96 model) almost 3 years ago, no problems at all. Added after market exhaust It roars and it goes. For sure would recommend this car to anybody. I bought it with 140,000 K its now at 230,000 k and still going strong! And I like to push my car to its limits to. Doesn't do all that well in snow or rain, but like I said I know my cars limitation so in that case just drive slow and careful!

Marco.
