1996 Toyota Paseo 1.8 from North America

Summary:

A terrific little car

Faults:

When I first got my car, it had a rear seal leak, but I was able to get that fixed with the warranty I purchased. My machanic said it can happen after 15,000 miles

General Comments:

It has great handling, and it is a fun little car.

It gets great gas mileage. I can get about 30-35 miles per gallon.

The back seat crowded and my brothers hit their head, but they like to scrunch down and look at the stars.

I got this car when my Nissan took a dump. When I first saw it, it looked very cute and sporty. Then when I got to drive it home, I had all the controls within reach, it was very silent and I was close to the ground.

It takes corners really well and it isn't top heavy.

I think that it is a great car, and I would recommend it as a first car.

I love my little Paseo.

1996 Toyota Paseo 1.5 from North America

Summary:

Great car, not a family car thou

Faults:

I have never had any problems with this car. The only item I have a problem with is the center cap on the rear wheel. It makes a squeaking noise.

General Comments:

This car has been great. The only service I have done is the basic service, oil changes and brakes at 90,000. This car gets great gas mileage about 27 miles to the gallon. It get me from point A to point B. It is very reliable. Thou, the car is a dog when it comes to speed it is a great car. I firmly believe in routine service the car will last as long as you want it to. I firmly believe Kendall Motor Oil has a lot to do with the engine running great! Oil is the life of the car. The back seats are extremely uncomfortable.

1996 Toyota Paseo 1.5 liter from North America

Summary:

Small, slow, but reliable

Faults:

I have had no problems with the car. Being 17 years of age, I have driven this car to the extreme and it has met all obstacles and overcome them.

General Comments:

This car is fairly slow and the back seat is very cramped with little head and leg room. I spent a grand improving the sound system to competition level, turning my car into a speaker on wheels.

It also gets great gas mileage, averages about 28 mpg. The engine tops out at about 90 mph.

My paseo tops out a lot faster than 90 try 115 or faster stock.

I drive a uk version and mine tops out at 120 mph on the flat and that's standard I think you guys have had raw deal with the rstrictors.

My Paseo is very quick, and has been raced out with many cars. My car has handled better than my b/f Honda Accord and it's a 2002, it has way better pick up!

My car is a 94 and it tops out at much faster than 90.

I think your competition sound system may be weighing you down if you can only achieve 90...hahaha.

1996 Toyota Paseo Coupe from North America

Faults:

Since I bought the car two years ago, nothing has gone wrong with it.

General Comments:

For being only a four-banger, it has a lot of get-up-and-go. And I love the way it hugs the road.

I agree with you. In Asia it is called Toyota Cynos 1.8L.

I bought a 1996 Toyota Paseo with 47k on it and the damn thing blew its engine. They say I blew three out of four rod bearings. I always changed my oil and I loved my car.

My biggest problem now is I can't find a replacement motor. I know they kept making them until 2000 in Japan, but I don't know if it's legal to get what they call Japan spec and if it wasn't legal, would it still pass emmisions?

Hey there paseo drivers. I bought mine (96 model) almost 3 years ago, no problems at all. Added after market exhaust It roars and it goes. For sure would recommend this car to anybody. I bought it with 140,000 K its now at 230,000 k and still going strong! And I like to push my car to its limits to. Doesn't do all that well in snow or rain, but like I said I know my cars limitation so in that case just drive slow and careful!

Marco.
