Ahem... can I call the suprastore.com 5 stage performance package into question, $34,000 = 1200 hp, again if you werent paying attention the first time, $34,000 = 1200 hp. so my point exactly, rednecks are always complaining that japanese cars suck? I would put my money on a modified toyota supra against american muscle ANYDAY. twin turbo removes the problem of lag, one is always spooling, never any lag, so in my point exactly a modified supra will wreck all, and I'm talking street car for street car, but most importantly, if anyone can tell me of an internally unmodified 3.0 inline 6 cylinder engine acheiving over 1000 hp with a forced induction system upgrade ALONE! I think not, so theirfore I find the 2JZ GTE the best engine for your money, and I'm not including crate engines, so leave the supra alone, your just afraid of what you don't understand, 2JZ 4 life! by the way u aint dealing with no rice rockets IE honda civic, the supra is hardcore, latest import record broken by a what? toyota supra tt doing 284 mph @ 5.326 s with a 2jz engine and twin T91 turbos with a 525 shot of direct port nitrous injection and CRYO2 injected into the air-to-air intercooler on HIGH TEST PUMP GASOLINE on mickey thompson streetable radials, thank you very much my entire point just proven
Sport Compact car published an issue about a guy in Arizona who had a modified twin turbo supra that had a perfect record. Zero drag losses to any manner of modified viper, corvette, or hayabusa. Research the article if you are curious.
Take that supra to the " world street nationals"- a street legal drag race. You'll be dealing with Hard core v8 fanatics that go over 200 mph in 7 sec- yes street legal. You guys are all talk, but supra never raced over there- because it won't even qualify. A heavily modified supra can't win with the heavily modified v8's. You only compare the weak v8's vs the heavily modified supra. But modified to modified- supra won't have a chance- it's too weak for a heavily modified big block v8. So take it to the "world street nationals" and you'll see what I mean- no offense, Supra's are for teens no pro. It also lacks torque- too much lag. Beter yet, take it to the pro race and you'll be dealing with over 300 mph v8s. Supra are for teens not pro.
Yeah subcompact only, but not a national event where there are heavy modified v8's. Supra won't even qualify. no offense.
The Supra is capable of over 1200hp. Saying that the car is week or just for teenagers is completely stupid. Just proves to me that none of you have even driven a powerful car or even a car for that mater.
My car is 530hp and is capable of 10s with full interior and does 3.5 to 100kph. The balance between handling and performance is where it counts, how fast it goes on a strait is merely one of many aspects to consider in a performance car.
This is coming from somone who actually own a performance car: http://www.cardomain.com/id/2barturbo.

A stock z0-6 corvette's top speed (which is limited by the factory) is 198 mph. 0-60 in 3.4 to 3.7 sec. That's a car from the dealer without changing anything. Here in the USA, you can also buy a twin turbo corvette called the " Callaway". It is a 220 mph stock car. These corvettes will outperform the Supra TT on straight or any corner- it was already proven at pro events. Supra TT has too much lag and it falls behind the powerfull v8's and v10-12's. So Supra is too weak for Americans that's why it was rejected right away. SUpra needs a v8 or v10 or v12 motor or else it will maintain its image - for the teen crowd. No offense.
OK, lets get back to the topic here. The original post in this review stated that the Supra TT was a great bang for the buck, and I being an American Muscle fan would have to agree. Take this for example. 1998 Supra TT with 6 speed manual= $20,000 + SupraStore.com's Stage 8 Turbo upgrade ($30,000) = $50,000 and over 1200hp. The lowest priced Corvette is $44,000 and the Z06 you guys are bragging about STARTS at $65,800. The Viper STARTS at $85,000. So, based on these figures, the Supra TT, as the originator stated, is the best bang for the buck. Try getting 1200hp out of a vette or a viper for $50,000...oh wait, you can't.
A $500 big block V8 motor from the junk yard from a 60's car can be transformed to 2000hp or more. Real hp not a wannabe like the supra. What a shame for the Supra- a junk yard car can blow it ways by far! No offense, supra are for teens in the USA.
Whats that? A 8000 hp supra? We have 8000 hp v8's! Oh what's that? supra can't? hahaha...!!
Horsepower is horsepower you idiot. it doesn't matter if it is on a vette, a supra, or a moped.
The mk4 supra is a nice car for the people that say it is for teens get a life.I have a lot of supra,s mk1 mk2 mk3 and I am not a teen. This car is a great car for all people.
It has a 3L not a v8 it so why put it in the same class of motor. This car has 320 hp from the show room. A mustang has 225 and a GM has about the same as the ford.SO it has a lot of power for a 3L.I say drive what you like not what people say what is good and bad.For it is your car.
Let me show you how this looks.
My 5000cui v20 can kill your 50cc car.
Here is my opinion, BASED ON THE TOPIC PEOPLE!
I live in South Africa and I built up my car. I used a Golf MK1 as a base and installed a Supra Twin Turbo engine (had to modify the firewall). Resprayed it, made a few minor performance mods and presto, I have a great car for just under R25000 - that's US$3600.
The point is (kinda drifted away from it), with the Supra it is almost impossible to go faster for less, even if I didn't build it up. And if we were talking standard stock, it still does. Inline 6 TT packs the most punch for what you pay for. Isn't that what this thread started as? Take a factory stock Inline 6 TT, like the Supra, and put it against a factory stock V8/10/12 THAT COSTS THE SAME, the Supra WILL WIN! Also, considering the long run costs, a Supra wins there as well, since a 6.5l (400 Ci) V8 goes through fuel like a Space Shuttle. Supra gets 23-24 mpg on the highway.
Also, that mountain of torque that all hi-power V8s produce means nothing if it can't put it on the ground, the only rubber capable of doing that is not street legal. I'd rather go for a low torque rotary like the RX. I like as little wheelspin on standard tyres, thank you, I want to get off the line first.
Not looking for an argument here, just giving my opinion and hoping you guys will stop with this senseless argument. Personal choice is what it comes down to.
Well, here in the USA, we don't like six cylinders- because it'll blow up on competition race- The cubic inch is too small & the motor is considered weak. We might as well get a v8 from a junkyard for $500 and make 2000hp out of it. It will blow the supra TT by far on the track and we've only spend a fraction of the supra's cost. Again, Surpa's in the USA are what parents buy their teens- yes, our parents buy us our transportations. I know I live here in the USA. Supra became the dream car for the teens. Adults call the Supra a "sportscar wannabe"- we like power comand not turbo lags. You only compare the weak v8's, but not the strong ones- why don't you compare a corvette callaway twin turbo? it's a 220 mph stock! You only compare the Supra's top of the line & the v8's base models- try comparing it with the big boys. a 1000hp Supra is no match to a 800 hp v8. We know it's proven already on the track- that's why supra was rejected over here.
Maybe we compare Supra's top of the line with v8's base model because they are with the same amount no point comparing something that is worth five time more. You are dreaming if you think you can make a engine from a junkyard make 2000hp. And if you could make 2000hp for a fraction of the supra's cost it's just going to blow to bits the second you feed it the gas.
I just read all these posts and I must make a comment to the guy who is shouting 2,000hp junkyard engines. You look very stupid and have made a fool of yourself. I'm guessing your like 15 years old or something. Yeah, just grab an engine for $500 bucks and blow on it and presto 2,000hp. Yeah, right. Can you make 2,000hp from a big block V-8, yeah you can. But it always comes down to what's the cost? The Callaway Corvette you're talking about ran well over $100,000 (and that's back when they built that twin turbo version in 1991!). The Supra was a fantastic car for speed at low cost. Plus the car was built far better than any Corvette ever was, that's for damn sure. Why do you shout about 6 cylinder engines blowing up? The stock Supra engine bottom end was far stronger than any stock Corvette V-8. Why do you think folks like Lingenfelter replace the bottom end when building up their engines, but modified Supras with 830hp have stock bottom ends? It's the V-8 that would blow-up far sooner than the Supra's IL-6. Once again, you demonstrate your stupidity by making comments that shows you have no clue what your talking about, but are just able to cite claims that you've heard about. Why don't you wise up and shut your mouth. It's the only way you'll even begin to look smarter.
