1989 Toyota Supra Turbo from North America - Comments

"Nothing else is a car compared to a Supra"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing so far! Yes the head gasket is a big problem for the Supras, especially the turbos. Keep changing the oil with synthetics and make sure your coolant level is good and your gasket will be good up until 150,000 miles like mine! HKS make a metal headgasket for 200 bucks for the Supra. Nice easy peace of mind from that.

General comments?

You won't believe it. People think my 89 looks like a 95. Perfect paint, doesn't fade.

Transmission is solid and feels great. Power beyond your wildest dreams. 400bhp possible with a few upgrades.

No, power is not possible to 400 horses... It's possible to 600! And that is dyno tested at the wheels baby!

My '89 Supra turbo is at 135,000 miles and it's still going strong. The head gasket was replaced at 60,000 miles, and went through the HKS stage 7 upgrade. It feels like a part of my body when I'm driving it, and so far, no other cars feel like it.

I've owned my '89 manual turbo for about 5 months, just starting on the head gasket problem at 123,450 miles, trouble is I can't find a specialist in kent, uk to look after the car.

I own 5 different cars, some for business and some for pleasure and my 5 year nephew always asks "can we go out in the supra". must get it fixed soon and maybe a different set of alloys, lowered and a retrim, the blue leather is starting wear.

This is an amazing car, even friends with so called "fast cars" can't believe how good this car is!

Had my Supra Turbo 6 Months spun it last week. Hit a curb at fifty mangled alloy bent one strut, £25 from breakers back on the road do that with any other muscle car (Don't think so) Built to last built like a tank that will do 160MPH as stock. I love my SUPRA...

I have had my 91 supra w/turbo for about a year when my dad gave it to me and I have had bunch of problems. the first month I spun out and hit a curb and cracked my rim and snapped my rack and pinion cost about 1200 to fix then of course the car is fast so I got a $300 ticket the next week and now my turbo needs to be replaced. this is an expensive car, but worth all the fun and it's a great fast car for a 17 year old. its fast just being stock. they are a great car.
