"Bad on fuel economy, great on performance!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Nothing at the moment.

General comments?

This car is definately the fastest I've driven so far (0-60 mph in approx 7secs though mine has been modified to achieve this in 5 seconds which beats subaru impreza's!).

Cabin isn't very impressive, but with help from the (expensive) irmisher styling it adds some reasonable extras to look at.

Doesn't take corners very well and braking round corners is a nightmare... I recommend astra owners to get sports spring kits to lower their vehicles and also change the brake pads to the performance ones called "Green-Stuff".

If you want to upgrade your Astra then I recommend going to Regal Sport in Southampton, they can increase the bhp by about 100-200 (mine is now 280 bhp).

Why chip it to 280 bhp when the chassis struggles with 200? You'd have made a quicker car by sorting the suspension.

The astra sri is not just for speed, comfort is a big issue too and in my opinion it is the speed and comfort of this car that makes it one of my top 5 cars.

Very solid car and very quick compared with my old mgzs180. not much can keep with it in a straight line, demolishes a audi tt quattro no problem what-so-ever as that's my second car.

You can buy a rear strut and roll bar which tightens up the back end making the handling amazing how it should have been, makes clio's look pathetic round twist and turns then I lose him on the straight.

You will out pace some Impreza's, but there are scoobs out there that will still kick your ass, ie: WR1 P1 STI PPP ect. Not just because they're much more powerful, but because the 4x4 system, they can use full throttle in 1st, 2nd and 3rd without wheelspin. How did you get 5 seconds from FWD? That's quicker than WRX, you must have very wide tyres!

He didn't get 5sec 0-60mph, what he got was, 5 sec to 60kph!

60 kph is only 30mph. can do 0-100 kph in 5. very quick for an astra which was designed as a family car. seen off boxters and all sorts.

Timed my sri turbo and got 0-60 in 7.2sec 0-100 in 21.6sec. Done with proper timing gear.

Your timing gear must slightly be out - that 0-100 time is too slow to match up to the 0-60 time you got. An SRi turbo should be hitting 60 in around 7 seconds, and 100 in sub-18 seconds.

Iv got a sri t with modified intake to bring right to the front and k&n and timed 0-60 5.7s, 0-100 14.7 with in car timing and horsepower/torque gadget.

If you want more performance from your sri/gsi, relocate the airflow meter and piping right to the front near the air feed for the original air kit, so it basically comes straight off the turbo and left to cold air feed, reduced air path by over 70% meaning colder denser air that doesn't get charged as it goes over the hot engine. you will have to cut and solder longer wire on the afm to get it to the front.

Throttle responce is massively improved along with performance.

Why they don't come like this I don't know.

Also makes the oe dumpvalve a lot louder. you will need some samco hoses in 70mm diameter in 45 & 90 degree bends.

Takes a while to cut and make perfect, but its worth it.

Standard:

189bhp

184lb/ft.

With mod and k&n induction kit

222bhp

229lb/ft.

All for the price of a induction kit and piping. about £100.

Totally agree. I think we have all heard enough of these so called pathetic performance claims.

You obviously know nothing about intake temperatures and pressure. the man is right its possible. read haynes performance book.

Says a drop of 10% in temperature is equivalent of 1 bhp, also is you take out the bends theres a drop in pressure which means quicker more powerful acceleration.

He's claiming a 33bhp increase though, which is never gonna happen from such a basic mod.
