Quote "The local garage girl always used to put her phone number on the back of my premier points card too!"

The Carlton is one of the very last properly built cars, its 1.8i OHC engine is now outlawed because of emissions.

The power it had would embarrass modern pretenders like Subaru and Mitsubishi EVOs, and the build quality is still up there with the very best Aston Martin and Bentley models.

Seek one out and discover what a real car can do, from an era of decadence and space travel, a car that had it all!

Superb review, are there awards for the best reviews on here, this is amongst the best I've read. They really don't build cars like they used to.

This is the finest review ever, you should be the next Topgear presenter instead of that meedget Hammond!

What to do with a Carlton 1.8 estate that just won't die? 140K, only change the oil, nothing ever goes wrong. Got a Vectra 2.2 estate too, but the Carlton is twice the car, cept for bump thud through the suspension, and the slowness.

This review is obviously a joke. It must be...

Yeah, not really all that funny.

"7 Gigawatt Pye stereo", the start of all the lies!

No Carlton in the world is faster than a Cosworth or corners like an f1.

I have a hdi 406 estate and I even show Carltons up, so my car must be awesome.

So basically if you want to beat Cosworths and corner like an F1 car, then buy a 406 diesel estate and you'll still get 45mpg, BARGAIN!!!

Lotus Carlton will give a Sierra Cosworth a good run for its money. But I do agree with you with 1800 Carlton is bit under powered; it's because of weight.

And no car will corner like an F1.

Don't think the review is to be taken seriously :)

Still, one of the funniest on Carsurvey, been looking at this site for about 15 years, this review always cracks me up. Anyways, a Lotus Carlton is closer to what the review describes. The 1.8 Carlton was one of the worst examples - slow and terrible on fuel. Far better off a good spec 2.0 which most were.

Still my favorite review on here :)

It's not that slow - if you drive it off a cliff.
