1999 Vauxhall Corsa Club 1.2 petrol from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A terrible car from a terrible company

Faults:

Removable front panel for the CD player breaks every 8 months or so due to a weak plastic catch. Whole CD player has to be replaced.

Computer control system started going wrong and needed completely replacing.

Powered steering cuts out occasionally.

Tracking has always pulled to the left, and Vauxhall have consistently failed to fix it.

Paintwork scratches too easily.

General Comments:

When I was in the process of buying the car, Vauxhall were very helpful and promised such things as the first service after a year being free. All this changed after the car was bought, and Vauxhall were completely uninterested in providing a decent customer service to help me sort out the problems.

The things Vauxhall have done ranged from the annoying to the down-right illegal - I was once charged for a repair they said they had carried out, which they then admitted hadn't actually be done.

The car is unreliable and poorly designed. The removable front panel on the CD player breaks every 8 months or so, and is replaced under the dealer's warranty. However lately Vauxhall have said they won't replace it under the warranty any more, even though they are legally obliged to do so. The tracking has always pulled to the left, and Vauxhall have never managed to permanently fix it. The powered steering cuts out now and again, and Vauxhall can't find the fault.

Vauxhall's customer service is also terrible - they are rude and unhelpful. The servicing mechanics can't seem to fix one problem without breaking something else and then trying to blame it on me.

I'm now in the process of handing the car back as it was only part-financed with Vauxhall and there is no way I am financing the rest of the cost of the car. However what should be a simple hand-over is turning into a palava - Vauxhall have lied to me about what steps I need to take to hand the car back, and I now only talk to their finance company, GMAC. GMAC however are completely useless and don't understand the concept of British contractual law as they are trying to impose conditions on me that aren't in the original contract.

Overall, an unreliable car from a company who may mess you around from start to end. Don't buy Vauxhall!

1999 Vauxhall Corsa Club 1.0 3 cylinder from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good cheap car

Faults:

Exhaust middle section needed to be re-placed. I eventually ended up paying for a whole new system (discounted) because Vauxhall could not put my original back box on.

C.V boot gaiter came loose, resulted in a knocking sound on drivers side, and I have a feeling the C. V joint needs replacing now. Sometimes hesitates to start.

General Comments:

Good overall car that still looks appealing especially to the younger genration. Low tax bracket and insurance group, not that it makes much difference when you are 17!

1999 Vauxhall Corsa SXi 16v 1.2 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A quick good looking car for a young driver

Faults:

The back seat was stuck in the forward position.

Central locking broke on drivers side.

General Comments:

The Corsa SXi is a great little car, quick, good-looking and a babe magnet for those young girls.

The performance is very good for a 1200cc, and has a very sporty feel.

It handles superbly and it feels like you could go at any speed around any corner, it also has very good brakes for when you're going a bit too fast!

The only problems I have encountered with this car was a central locking problem, and one of the back seats got stuck in the forward position.

Both were relatively cheap to repair.

With alloy wheels and bucket seats as standard, the Corsa SXi is a great buy.
