1994 Vauxhall Omega Elite 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

A pleasure to drive

Faults:

The flexible exhaust joint before the cat split. Steeles of Worthing (dealer) supplied a cat, joint & front pipe as one part for just over £200. Not a bad price.

Hazard switch malfunction affected the indicators. Made simple repair to the switch innards.

Poor radio reception from rear heated window ariel.

Idle is erratic occasionally.

General Comments:

Considering the mileage, the engine is excellent.

I get 35-40 miles per gallon on long runs with two passengers.

The cabin space and appointment is good.

The car has fairly taut suspension and handles well.

1994 Vauxhall Omega GLS 1998 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Like it despite some expensive problems

Faults:

ABS packed up, had two sensors replaced, still left with a fault, suspect the ABS brain has gone terminal.

Speedo swings wildly up & down and once stopped operating totally.

Both above faults appear heat related since they both appear when the engine has 'warmed up'.

Driver's internal door handle trim falls off regularly.

Odds & sods bin beside the fuse panel falls open regularly, still figuring that one out.

General Comments:

Despite all the above (which will probably result in me selling the car), I am fairly impressed with the car. I've had it for around 4 weeks and found it to be a very relaxed cruiser that does not make you feel like you've just driven 200 miles when you've just driven 200 miles.

Previous owner had replaced the radio cassette with new CD player, a vast improvement on usual Vauxhall systems, but it did show up that the original speakers are good value.

1994 Vauxhall Omega CD 2.0 16v from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good value, poor brakes

Faults:

Brake travels to the floor when the engine running. Vauxhall technical (yesterday) said this is OK. I have tried three other cars of L&M regs, they are all the same. This cannot be right.

1994 Vauxhall Omega Elite 3.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Antisocial fuel guzzler - love it!

Faults:

Various catches broken.

Passenger center vent points floorward.

Rear speaker u/s.

Headlamp locating lugs broken.

Windscreen scratches to oblivion by the previous owner!

All replaced by Network Q at the time of purchase.

General Comments:

Good fuel economy - 5 miles per litre (25mpg) around doors, around 8mpl (35mpg) long haul! Very gentle with cruise control...

Good ride and handling for a large car.

Auto transmission sluggish on standing starts only, really takes off above UK speed limits - not wise or necessary.

Relaxed to drive in and around town, on open roads or motorways.

Good sound from the engine when pushed!

1994 Vauxhall Omega SEL Estate 2.5 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good working car, very comfortable - potential unknown problems?

Faults:

Headlights far too dim.

Fuel stop solenoid failed.

**Loud slow metallic clicking coming from engine, 2 to 3 clicks a second starting at 500 revs and increasing with revs.

General Comments:

Engine Problem: Independant of engine load. Oil condition fine. Regular service. So far three Vauxhall technical specialists have examined the engine. None have been able to identify the cause. All were concerned. One of them reported hearing it in another Omega taxi with 200,000 miles, which was also not resolved. Problem still under investigation - can any one help?

1994 Vauxhall Omega CDX 2.5 V6 petrol from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Engine - Need I say more?

Well:

Cooling problems.

Dash computer digits faded.

Multiplayer won't eject (major problem).

Come on, I only had it 1 week!

General Comments:

Bought at 69K, fantastic car for a 19 year old, shame I only had it a week. 'Testing' its rapid performance produced a strange noise at 85mph resulting in engine shutdown. Loss of car for 5 weeks, and a 40k replacement engine fitted. Yet to see it back. Courtesy Rover 620Sli tickles my fancy though!

1994 Vauxhall Omega CD 2.0 petrol automatic from UK and Ireland

Faults:

Nothing major so far. Electric sunroof motor has been replaced under Network Q warranty along with the exhaust, trip computer display and a few items of interior trim. The throttle body required cleaning to prevent uncontrolled engine revving when at idle. The range function on the trip computer is overly optimistic which has led to running out of fuel on two separate occasions despite showing at least 35 miles left.

General Comments:

Bought from Currie Motors with a Network Q warranty. This dealer was completely clueless when it came to sorting out even minor faults with the car. Eventually went to another dealer (PNG Enfield) to sort the faults out. They were much better.

I have been impressed with its ability to cover vast distances with little effort and reasonable fuel consumption. On a recent trip to Edinburgh it returned 29mpg with four people and luggage on board while cruising at around 90mph. It is not a car that likes to be hurried but once you find its pace it is a very easy and comfortable car to drive.
