2002 Vauxhall Zafira ELX 2.0 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Good, but seems to have a short life span for its age

Faults:

I have a Zafira Elegance 2.0 DT ELX.

Warning light on dashboard electronically controlled engine, cooling along with immobilizer light.

Car starts OK, but then after approx 1/2 miles lights come on dashboard and the power then goes. Also no revs. Can drive just about under 40mph, and then after a few miles the lights go out and back to normal. Car has now stopped 2 times completely when lights on and managed to get started.

Vauxhall printed error codes present engine speed input from ECU, P0400 critical system malfunction 1. ABS light fault C0035 not present front left wheel sensor + cooling module. No engine rpm signal. Further investigation required.

May require fuel pump/ECU £2502.75 inc vat £752 also may require wheel bearing £330.18 subject to investigation. Vauxhall want another £164 to check.

Other garage can't find fault so could be above. £3k is not worth it due to the car's age. Anyone else had this problem please?

General Comments:

Loved this car till now. Very roomy and good family car, but as the car only 6 years old and only through a third of its engine life, I'm in despair.

Don't want to pay Vauxhall another £164 to still be told the above faults, as it will be wasted money, but stuck to find out 100% what is wrong, as Nationwide Autocentre have looked at it twice and can only assume it's the other parts Vauxhall are stating.

2002 Vauxhall Zafira club 1.6 from UK and Ireland

Summary:

My car was OK apart from this problem, it's the dealership that is pi**poor

Faults:

Excessive oil consumption which was noticed when car was approximately 2 and a half years old after a service carried out by the dealership.

I took the car back to the dealer numerous times over an 18 month period, but they tried to avoid responsibility.

Eventually, they contacted Vauxhall who initially refused to do anything about the fault. I insisted that they check their records to show that this problem had been present for at least 18 months, but the dealer had nothing about it. I insisted that they must do something so Vauxhall finally authorised them to take the car in to try to 'find out' what the problem is.

The car is in the garage at present and I have just been told that they are "measuring the piston rings" and that the piston rings are nipped and there are markings on them". This sounds to me that my car has the same manufacturing fault as all of the others. The dealers have avoided doing anything about it until now.

This has caused me a great deal of inconvenience, time, trouble and the expense of continually purchasing oil.

To add insult to injury, they gave me a courtesy car with no petrol in and a cracked windscreen!

2002 Vauxhall Zafira 2.0 turbo diesel from UK and Ireland

Summary:

Very good

General Comments:

Why is this so bad when it comes to being able to tow a caravan? The kerb side weight is good, but it can only tow 1050, which is very low. Can someone give me the answer?

I understand that the towing weight for the diesel models is lower than expected as the engine breaking is poor on this model. You will find that the towing weight for the 1.8 petrol model is higher.

Easy answer; it's based on an Astra chassis.

A lot of Vauxhalls from this time have what we call a "Chocolate box", especially M30 and M32 manual boxes. As for the autos, never had one but heard they are not great either.
