1998 Volkswagen Beetle L4-1984cc review from North America
"The worst car I have ever owned! A true lemon!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Transmission linkage.
Shifter bucket and shifter works repaired and replaced.
Shift shaft rod replaced.
Shorted out mass air flow sensor replaced.
Cattier & levers replaced.
Replaced shift assembly. shift rods and replaced clutch disk pressure plate and release bearing.
All automatic window switches replaced.
Check engine light has come on so often I cannot remember the number of times. Most of the time the computer just needed to be reset/cleared.
Hood ornament (V.W. emblem came off)
Install replacement followers. Set to manufacturer's specs.
Struts replaced.
Replaced alternator.
Replaced battery.
Replaced starter.
Tabs that hold floor mats in place were replaced.
Window motor replaced.
All other repairs are in another file that I do not have access to at the time of filling this out, but there are more.
General comments?
Based on my knowledge of German engineering and VW in particular, I bought this car. I never imagined the problems I would experience.
Last year alone, I spent more than $3000.00 in repairs.
